Hokies Take ACC Win on Friday Night
September 29, 2017 | Men's Soccer
Eagles fall despite another late rally in conference play
NEWTON, Mass. – The Boston College men's soccer team fell to Virginia Tech, 1-0, on Friday night at the Newton Campus Fields.

After an evenly played scoreless first half, the Hokies wasted little time jumping on the board in the second. In the 47th minutes, Kristo Strickler took a feed from Marcelo Acuma and curled a 16-yard shot inside the far post to stake VTech to a 1-0 lead.

BC tried to fight back and get the equalizer – out-shooting the Hokies 9-5 and out-cornering VTech 9-1 in the second half – but could not break through the Tech defense. Ben Lundgaard made six saves on BC shots, including three in the final 10 minutes, to stifle the Eagles' attack.

Boston College returns to action on Friday, Oct. 6, when the team visits No. 10 Virginia in Chartottesville. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra, which is available on WatchESPN and the ESPN app.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 11' | VTech keeper Ben Lundgaard made a save on Beto Luna's half-volley from the top of the penalty area in the game's first real chance. Luna got on the ball after an chance was blocked and popped out near the edge of the box.
- 37' | Hokie substitute Will Mejia made himself known less than a minute after coming onto the field. After an initial headed shot was blocked, Mejia rose up and headed a shot on frame, but BC keeper Antonio Chavez Borrelli was there for the stop
- 45' | Simon Enstrom got around a defender on the end line, collecting a throw-in. He then sent a low pass back out to the penalty spot for Lasse Lehmann. His shot was pressured and went wide, where Luna and Lundgaard collided as the goalkeeper covered the ball.
- 47' | VT GOAL – Marcelo Acuna won a 50-50 ball at the edge of the Hokie attacking third, and pulled the ball down and played Kristo Strickler wide to his left. The midfielder then curled his 16-yard shot back across the goal and inside the far post to put Virginia Tech up 1-0.
- 48' | Enstrom's hold-up play allowed a pair of Eagles to get into the box, and he then played Heidar Aegisson for an angled cross back into the area. Nikita Bondar's shot was blocked straight up and Luna got around it for an overhead shot that Lundgaard saved.
- 58' | Off a BC corner kick, Lundgaard came out and intercepted an Eagle cross way off his line and then threw the ball up to midfield to Acuna. The Hokies' striker ran into undefended space on the 3-on-2 and ripped a shot on target, but Chavez Borrelli made the save to keep it a one-goal game.
- 78' | BC had another corner and as Callum Johnson's delivery came out to the top of the box, Henry Balf launched a low shot through traffic that caught the Hokies' defense – and Lundgaard – off guard and went just inches wide.
