Free-kick Goal Downs Eagles at No. 11 Virginia
October 06, 2017 | Men's Soccer
Eagles had the edge in the first half, but could not break through
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Sergi Nus' 25-yard first-half free kick was the difference as the Boston College men's soccer team fell at No. 11 Virginia on Friday night.

After out-shooting the Cavs 9-4 in the first half, the Eagles went without a shot for 32 minutes in the second half.

BC (3-8-0, 0-5-0 ACC) had several chances in the first, but it was Mohammed Moro's corner kick in the 79th minute that was the Eagles' closest opportunity. His low service found its way through the six-yard box but Raphael Salama couldn't get his foot on it at the far post for what would've been a tap-in goal.

Virginia (8-1-2, 2-1-2 ACC) hit the crossbar earlier in the second half when Joe Bell's chipped shot clipped the woodwork.

Eagles goalkeeper Antonio Chavez Borrelli was credited with just two saves, despite being active all night. Virginia keeper Jeff Caldwell was credited with five saves.

Boston College returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 10 when the team crosses the city and faces Harvard at the Crimson's Jordan Field. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. and the game will be televised live on NESN and streamed on the Ivy League Digital Network.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 6' | Simon Enstrom created space after Callum Johns fed him near the top of the box. Enstrom turned and launched a shot, but Cavs' keeper Jeff Caldwell was there for the stop
- 21' | UVA GOAL – The Cavaliers were awarded a free kick about 35 yards out in the right-center channel. Sergi Nus stepped up and curled an inswinging attempt on frame, finding a sliver of space past the reach of Antonio Chavez Borrelli and bouncing the free kick in off the post for a 1-0 lead.
- 27' | Younes Boudadi ran onto a pass out of the midfield and took the space down the right wing. He ripped am uncontested shot from just inside the penalty area, but got under it and it sailed high.
- 53' | The Eagles were unable to clear and Joe Bell intercepted a clearance pass before lobbing shot from outside the area kicked off the crossbar.
- 56' | Nus played Edward Opoku through at the top of the penalty area, and Opoku dribbled in to the spot, but BC goalkeeper Antonio Chavez Borrelli came out and slid in, forcing forcing Opoku to shoot wide.
- 71' | Virginia was awarded a free kick 19 yards out off in the left center channel, and Pablo Aguliar stepped up. His shot was on target, and Chavez Borrelli reached to get a fingertip on the ball and push it over the net to preserve the one-goal deficit.
- 79' | On a BC corner kick, Mohammed Moro's low service snaked through the six-yard box with eyes to Raphael Salama on the far post, but Salama couldn't get a foot on the ball and it skipped through a foot off the post.
