
Braakhuis, Baldio Earn Triple-Doubles against Syracuse

The Eagles fell in four sets after a second-set victory and a tough fought battle.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Graduate Lynn Braakhuis and Sophomore Cat Balido had a stellar match, recording triple-doubles but their efforts could not propel the Eagles to a victory. Boston College volley fell to Syracuse, 3-1, Wednesday night.
Braakhuis led the team with 17 points, 17 kills and 12 digs, all while averaging a .361 hitting percentage on the evening. Balido contributed 15.5 points, 11 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Jill Strockis was a defensive force behind the Eagles with 16 digs, while sophomore Jane DeJarld registered match-high 27 assists.
Syracuse was paced by Anastasiya Gorelina, who notched 22.5 points during the match, contributing 20 kills.
Up next: Boston College continues with ACC play, travelling to Pittsburgh Sept. 22 at 1 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
Syracuse opened scoring, but the evenly matched teams traded points until an Orange kill sparked a slight run, giving Syracuse the lead until the end, 25-23.
SET 2
BC notched the first point of the set from a Sol Calvete kill, but really found its footing at 4-5 after a 6-1 run began. This lead carried the Eagles to the set victory, 25-21.
SET 3
A service error from SU handed BC the first point of the set but neither team could pull ahead. A kill from Braakhuis started a 5-1 run, giving the lead to the Eagles. At 23-19 BC, Syracuse 7-0 run, cementing the third set win, 25-23.
SET 4
Syracuse found the lead right away in this set, leading by as many as six points at one time. The Eagles fought through and caught back up with the Orange tie the set at 21-all, but three kills from SU secured the set, 25-23, and the match for the Orange.
