Second-half Goal Halts Eagles at No. 10 Clemson
September 15, 2017 | Men's Soccer
Eagles can’t find the net with key chances, fall on the road
CLEMSON, S.C. – The Boston College men's soccer team had three key chances on Friday night, but could not convert any of them and lost, 1-0, to No. 10 Clemson at Historic Riggs Field.
After a scoreless first half – in which freshman goalkeeper Antonio Chavez Borrelli made a key reaction kick save just three minutes in and BC had a pair of opportunities early on through Simon Enstrom – the Tigers broke through in the 60th minute. Using a quick passing sequence at the top of the penalty area, Clemson's Tanner Dieterich got free and scored with a hard angle shot that just found the inside of the far post.
BC (2-4, 0-2 ACC) threatened late as substitute Trevor Davock came on and spurred a few rushes – including a narrowly wide effort in the 73rd minute – but the Eagles could not convert as time wound down.
With the win, Clemson (5-1-0, 1-1-0 ACC) pushed its unbeaten run against the Eagles to 11 games (7-0-4).
Boston College returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 19, when the team hosts Providence at 6 p.m. at the Newton Campus Fields. The game will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra, which is available on WatchESPN and the ESPN app.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 3' | Clemson jumped on a loose backpass and pressured almost immediately. After Jason Wright settled the ball off to Antonio Chavez Borrelli's right near the post, he found Justin Malou about six yards out on the other side of the area. Malou corralled, turned and then put a shot on goal, but Chavez Borrelli made a spectacular reaction kick save to keep the score at 0-0 early in the game
- 18' | Simon Enstrom got deep in the Tigers' zone and dribbled around Clemson goalkeeper Ximo Miralles who was way out off his line, but as Enstrom rounded the area to take a shot on the wide-open net, the CU keeper recovered and pushed Enstrom's dribble over the end line before he could get the shot off.
- 60' | CLEMSON GOAL: The Tigers worked a series of quick passes at the edge of the penalty area, and Saul Chinchilla's pass to Oliver Shannon created space for Tanner Dieterich to work wide. He received the ball from Shannon and, five yards out, got off an angled shot that just found space inside the far post, putting Clemson up 1-0
- 73' | Lasse Lehmann sent Trevor Davock in with a long pass over the top of the defense. Davock held off a pair of defenders, dribbled wide left and ripped a left-footed shot back across the goal. His shot beat Miralles, but was inches wide of the far post.
