September 13, 2017 | Men's Soccer
Eagles will look to claim their first ACC points
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College men's soccer team takes its first ACC road test of the season on Friday night, traveling to No. 10 Clemson for a 7 p.m. kickoff. The ACC Regional Sports Network will televise the game live nationally, including locally in New England on NESNPlus. A full listing of regional sports networks carrying the game is available at theacc.com.
Â
The game will also be streamed live on ACC Network Extra – available at WatchESPN.com or the ESPN app – outside of television coverage areas.
Â
Both teams enter Friday's tilt looking to earn their first ACC win of the season.
Â
Last Friday, the Eagles (2-3-0, 0-1-0, ACC) fell to then-No. 6 Notre Dame, 3-1, at home. After a scoreless first half, the Irish used a hat trick from reigning ACC Player of the Year John Gallagher to claim the win. Gallagher put ND up 1-0 with a 24-yard free kick goal, then added a headed goal off the counter attack to push the score to 2-0. BC's Beto Luna tallied the first goal of his career in the 82nd minute to pull BC within a goal, but Gallagher converted his second free kick – a replica of his first goal – one minute later to complete the scoring. After the Irish's win, they jumped up to No. 2 in this week's United Soccer Coaches Poll.
Â
Clemson (4-1-0, 0-1-0 ACC) enters Friday's game after suffering a 1-0 loss at NC State last Friday in its conference opener. The Wolfpack used a seventh-minute goal to stake a 1-0 lead and the Tigers thought they had equalized in the 23rd minute, but it was waived off by an offside call. NC State out-shot Clemson, 12-10, for the match – including 6-5 margins in both halves.
Â
BC junior Simon Enstrom continues to pace the Eagles in scoring with four goals and two assists, while sophomore Heidar Aegisson and Younes Boudadi each have four assists apiece. While the Eagles' goalkeepers have split time most of the season, freshman Antonio Chavez Borrelli has started two of the last three games, including last Friday's ACC opener. Seven players have goals for BC this year, while nine players have picked up assists.
Â
For Clemson, co-leading scorer Diego Campos (two goals, one assist) will be forced out of Friday's game while serving a red-card suspension after his sending off last Friday against NC State. The Tigers' midweek game against Florida International was canceled because of the effects of Hurricane Irma, forcing the Costa Rican to miss the ACC tilt. His co-leader in scoring, Jason Wright also has two goals and one assist. Overall, six different Tigers have recorded goals this year, while seven players have assists.
Â
The Tigers' defense has only allowed four goals in five games, but their only shutout came in the season against Cal State Fullerton.
