McGovern Scores Double OT Winner
August 27, 2017 | Field Hockey
The Eagles start the season 2-0 after a thrilling victory on Sunday
ALBANY, N.Y. – It took almost 92 minutes but the 12th-ranked Boston College field hockey team came away with the victory against No. 18 Albany on Sunday afternoon. Freshman Caroline McGovern scored her first collegiate goal in double overtime to give the Eagles (2-0) the victory.
Â
After junior Lucy Lytle netted the first goal of the game just 5:40 in, BC could not push another past Albany goal keeper Melissa Nealon. The Eagles had two goals called back and two penalty shots saved before McGovern's double-overtime score.
Â
The Great Danes (0-2) scored the tying goal in the first half and both teams played to draw through regulation. The first seven-on-seven, 15-minute overtime was not enough, even with the Eagles' three shot attempts. In the second OT, BC got off six attempts to Albany's one, with the final being the dragger.

"Albany is a tough place to play. That team played hard the entire game, but credit to our players. I loved our resiliency. We had a few opportunities that didn't go in, but we kept fighting. I love that about this group. Any weekend you can go 2-0 is encouraging. I am proud of our players right now."
