Four Scorers Lift Eagles to Season-Opening Victory

Enstrom, Moro, Forbes and Johnson all get on the box score in the opening game
NEWTON, Mass. – Behind four different goal scorers, the Boston College men's soccer team earned a 4-0 win over Quinnipiac in its season opener late Friday afternoon at the Newton Campus Soccer Field.

Boston College (1-0-0) staked a 3-0 lead at the half courtesy of goals from Simon Enstrom, Mohammed Moro and Joshua Forbes, but were forced to play the second half down a man after Forbes was shown a straight red card in the 44th minute. Quinnipiac (0-1-0) edged BC in shots in the stanza, 8-5.

As the Eagles continued with 10 men in the second half, BC sustained the pressure and pushed the lead to 4-0 through Callum Johnson's long-range blast in the 77th minute.

A pair of goalkeepers split time in net for BC, as Jack Bacon started and made one save in 45:00 of action. Antonio Chavez Borrelli made five stops in the second half in his collegiate debut. Quinnipiac out-shot BC 16-8, including an 8-3 margin in the second half. Quinnipac's Chrys Iakovidis made one save in the loss.

Boston College returns to action on Sunday, Aug. 27, when they travel down Commonwealth Ave., to face Boston University at 7 p.m. at Nickerson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 7' | Boston College scored on its first shot of the game, when Younes Boudadi played a pass ahead to Simon Enstrom. He took it on his first touch and redirected it past Quinnipac goalkeeper Chrys Iakovidis on the near post for a 1-0 lead.
- 10' | The Eagles added to the lead three minutes later off a reset corner kick. Mohammed Moro's service was cleared back to him, and after a one-two play with Nikita Bondar out by the right touch line, Moro sent in a curling left-footed shot that cleared the box and found twine inside the far post for a 2-0 lead.
- 24' | Heidar Aegisson led the attack into the area and played Enstrom ahead. The Swede then backheeled the ball to Joshua Forbes running down the left wing and into the penalty area. He took the ball on the run and placed a rising shot up in under the crossbar to push the lead to 3-0.
- 44' | Forbes was shown a straight red card for retaliation after he and a Quinnipiac player tussled on the end line as the ball rolled out of play
- 77' | Heidar Aegisson won the ball near the edge of the center circle and played Callum Johnson out wide. Johnson cut in and unleashed a 25-yard squirming shot that beat Iakovidis in the upper corner on the near post.
GAME NOTES
- Four newcomers made their collegiate debuts: Heidar Aegisson and Nikita Bondar both started while Beto Luna and Antonio Chavez Borrelli came on at the half
- Simon Enstrom's goal was his 14th of his career and his assist on Joshua Forbes' goal was his first since Nov. 17, 2016 in the NCAA First Round against Fordham
- Younes Boudadi's assist on Enstrom's tally was the first assist of his collegiate career
- Mohammed Moro's first-half goal was his first goal since 2015
- Nikita Bondar registered the first assist of his career, setting up Moro's strike in the first half
- Heidar Aegisson recorded the first two collegiate points of his career, marking the Eagles' first two-assist effort since Zeiko Lewis had two helpers against NC State on Oct. 29, 2016 (5-4 win)
- Joshua Forbes' goal was his first of the season and his first since Aug. 28, 2016 – a tally against Boston University
