ACC Quarterfinals: Boston College vs. Notre Dame
Anderson Stadium | Chapel Hill, N.C.

Boston College head coach Ashley Obrest
Opening statement:
"We didn't really talk much about the game, to be honest. We just talked about the legacy that the four seniors have left on the program and what they've done on the field and off the field and, most importantly, what kind of people they are. We went over the game a little bit, but at this point they don't want to hear about what went well and what went wrong. They want to talk about the seniors because they've been here for four years and they've made a major mark on the program."
On building an early lead:
"I think we were confident coming in. I think we were a half-game away from being the No. 2 seed, we were the higher seed. We didn't play well in the three-game series we just had at Notre Dame, so we knew if we cleaned some things up that we were going to be the better team. I think they came out confident knowing that 'Hey, we can take it to them, we can win this game.'"
On the influence of the seniors to get out to an early lead:
"I think they are really gritty people and gritty players, and there's that 'whatever it takes' mindset. If it takes a bunt to get on base, we're going to do it. If it takes hitting the ball over the fence, let's do it. So absolutely."
Notre Dame head coach Deanna Gumpf
Opening statement:
"It kind of played out the way as the last weekend played out with them as well. It's just kind of a barn burner. Things happen. I thought we were a little sluggish early. I didn't like the way we looked in the first couple innings of the game. I thought that we kind of let things happen to us. That's pretty uncharacteristic because usually in the first game we're pretty darn good. That was a bummer to get started on the wrong foot, but as the game went on we kept getting better and better and better. I think that's a great sign for the postseason. I'm just proud of the team. They fought like heck and made things happen."
On what she told her team going into the seventh inning down two runs:
"Right before the sixth and seventh, all I said was, 'We don't worry about the result, we don't worry about the score. It's one pitch at a time. Attack great pitches.' That's all I said."
On what she told her team going into extra innings:
"Nothing changes. One pitch at a time. When we play our best we don't worry about the result. We don't worry about what's already happened. We just focus on that next pitch."
