Obrest enters her eighth season as head coach of the Boston College softball team.
During the 2017 season and Obrest’s sixth as head coach, BC earned a 31-22 (14-9 ACC) record. This record gave the Eagles their third 30-win season in four years. The 14-9 ACC record also marked the program-high for ACC victories in a single season and tied the record for most conference wins in the program’s history. The 31 win season also marked the most wins in Obrest’s career as Eagles head coach. Four Eagles were named to the All-ACC Team, while two earned NFCA All-Region Honors. One Eagle, Tatiana Cortez, was named espnW Player of the Week. Cortez also became BC’s all-time leader in career home runs (47), RBI (171) and total bases (353) under Obrest. Also, the Eagles were honored by the BoSox Club (Official Boston Red Sox Fan Club) as the 2017 New England collegiate softball team of the year, marking the second consecutive year that the team has been honored by the BoSox.
During the 2016 season - Obrest's fifth at the helm - BC compiled a 30-23 (12-9 ACC) record. This marked the second 30-win season in three years for the Eagles, while tying the program-high for ACC victories in a season with 12. Four Eagles were represented on the All-ACC postseason awards, while a program-record four earned NFCA All-Region honors.Additionally, the Eagles were honored by the BoSox Club (Official Boston Red Sox Fan Club) as the 2016 New England collegiate softball team of the year.
The Eagles went 27-24 in Obrest’s fourth season. The team put together an impressive 12-5 mark in neutral site games, were 8-5 at home and managed six wins in the always tough ACC.
In her third season at the helm, head coach Ashley Obrest led the Eagles to a 30-23 record, going 12-14 in the competitive Atlantic Coast Conference. Senior captain Nicole D’Argento recorded 179 strikeouts on her way to 18 wins and a 2.70 ERA on the season. Megan Cooley (.360 BA) and captain Tory Speer (.355 BA) helped power Boston College to its first 30-win season since 2008. Under Obrest, the Eagles won a program-best 12 ACC games in 2014. Boston College’s 12 ACC wins is the most conference wins the program has recorded in 11 years.
The Eagles had a 14-38 record under Obrest in 2013 and were led offensively by Tory Speer, who was named captain for the 2014 season along with Nicole D’Argento and Alana DiMaso. Speer hit 15 homeruns to set a single-season Boston College record and earned second-team All-ACC Honors.
In her first campaign, Obrest guided Boston College to its first 20-win season in five years. The new skipper guided the Eagles to their best start in the previous decade, winning 10 of the first 12 games, before finishing with a 23-30 (3-18 ACC) mark. BC was victorious in the games versus NCAA Tournament teams, including the first defeat of a nationally ranked team (North Carolina) in three seasons. Under Obrest's tutelage, junior Nicole D'Argento pitched and hit her way to First Team All-ACC honors and freshman second baseman Andrea Filler collected a second team
accolade.
Following a two-year stint as the assistant coach, Obrest was promoted to head coach of Colgate University in July 2010. The 2011 season saw the Elmwood Park, Ill., native set a school record for most wins by a first-year head coach (27) as she led the Raiders to a regular-season Patriot League title with a 16-3 conference mark.
Colgate earned numerous honors under Obrest’s tutelage. Rachel LeCoq was voted the Patriot League Pitcher of the Year and a first-team all-league selection en route to being named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Northeast All-Region second team. Tera Vaughan was tabbed as the 2011 Patriot League Rookie of the Year, the NCAA Division I Hardest Person to Strike Out and was another first team All-Patriot League selection. The Raiders also had four Patriot League second-team honorees and a quartet of Academic Honor Roll selections that same year.
During the 2009 and 2010 seasons, Colgate received four first-team and five second-team All-Patriot League selections, one All-Region honoree and had nine Academic Honor Roll achievements.
Prior to joining Colgate, Obrest served as an assistant coach at Concordia University in Chicago and a private hitting and catching instructor for the Chicago White Sox Training Academy from 2007-08.
While at Boston College, Obrest was a four-year letterwinner. The catcher was the first Eagles softball player to garner an ACC Player of the Week accolade. The 2007 grad was also a part of numerous Student-Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) initiatives, including the Pen Pal Program, Food for Families and the hospital visitation programs.
Obrest earned her Bachelor of Arts in sociology from BC in 2007 before going on to earn a master of science in sport management from SUNY Cortland in 2010.
