Fours and Second Varsity Eight Take First on the Charles

BC took first place in two-of-three events on Sunday over MIT and BU Lightweights.

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College rowing team hit the Charles River for the first competitive action of the season against MIT and BU Lightweights on Sunday, April 2. The BC field consisted of six boats competing in three events with the Eagles taking first in the Varsity Four and the Second Varsity Eight.

The women's events opened with the Varsity Eight as the Eagles' crew finished third with a time of 7:22.7. BU won the event with a time of 7:08.0, followed by MIT at 7:13.9.

After the first race, BC controlled the field as three boats hit the water for the Second Varsity Eight Event against BU and MIT. The BC "A" crew, led by Amanda Bakke, won with a time of 7:35.8, nine seconds ahead of BU which finished at 7:46.7. The BC "B" crew also put together a strong race and finished in third with a time of 7:49.3, followed by MIT (7:52.7) and BC "C" (8:25.1).

In the final event, BC was dominant in the Varsity Four event which the BC "B" won in 8:26.3 and was led by coxswain Danielle Eng and stroke seat Jackie McDonnell. The BC "A" boat was second with a time of 8:36.1, followed by MIT.

The Eagles will be back in action this weekend as the team travels to West Windsor, N.J., to compete in the Knecht Cup.
