Third Varsity Eight Leads Eagles on Day One at Lake Wheeler Invitational

CARY, N.C. – The Boston College rowing team opened competition at the Lake Wheeler Invitational on Friday, highlighted by a second-place finish from the Third Varsity Eight in the first round.

"Some great racing and strong showings in both sessions against multiple top 25 teams," said Head Coach Grace Hollowell. "They did a great job with the round robin format and making good adjustments from race to race. A special shout to the 3V8 for fighting Duke to the line for a very close 2nd! We are looking forward to getting another shot down the course in the morning and having our best piece of the weekend!"

The Eagles' Third Varsity Eight turned in Boston College's top finish of the day in the opening round, placing second behind Duke with a time of 6:51.660. BC finished less than a second behind the Blue Devils and ahead of Louisville, Georgetown and Navy.

Boston College's Varsity Eight also posted a strong result in the morning, placing third in its heat with a time of 7:02.460, finishing behind Virginia and Miami while topping Oklahoma, George Washington and West Virginia.

The Eagles continued competition in the afternoon against a strong field led by Virginia. The Third Varsity Eight delivered Boston College's best finish of the second round, placing third with a time of 7:02.460, more than 12 seconds ahead of Oklahoma, and more than 25 seconds ahead of George Washington and West Virginia.

Boston College's Varsity Four recorded fourth-place finishes in both rounds, posting times of 7:28.620 in the morning and 7:38.630 in the afternoon.Â

The Second Varsity Eight also earned a fourth place finish in the afternoon round with a time of 6:54.030.

The Eagles return to Lake Wheeler Park on Saturday for the third and final round of the Lake Wheeler Invitational.
