Rowing Retains Irving-Christensen Cup For Eighth Year

WORCESTER, Mass.– The Boston College rowing team captured the Irving-Christensen Cup for the eighth consecutive year Saturday morning on Lake Quinsigamond.

Racing in steady conditions with northeast winds around 8 mph, the Eagles posted first-place finishes in the Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Four to lead the field.

The Second Varsity Eight took first in their heat against UMass, UConn, Sacred Heart, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Holy Cross. The Varsity Four posted a strong first-place victory over UConn, UMass, Sacred Heart, Holy Cross and MIT, finishing more than five seconds ahead of second-place UConn.

The Second Varsity Four and Third Varsity Eight also posted strong finishes, earning second-place finishes. The Second Varsity Four finished the race ahead of Sacred Heart and Holy Cross. The Third Varsity Eight recorded a second-place finish ahead of UMass A and B boats.

The Varsity Eight crew also recorded a top-three finish in their race, falling to UMass and MIT by five seconds, and defeating UConn, Sacred Heart and Holy Cross by six or more seconds.

Overall, the Eagles delivered a strong team performance as they continue to build momentum heading into the last few races of the season.
