BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior right-handed starter Brian Rapp pitched a complete-game shutout, going nine for the first time in his career. Only five Wolfpack runners reached base on the day on three hits – all singles – and two walks, while Rapp struck out six.
- Sophomore Jake Alu led the way with a 2-for-3 day. He has at least one hit in the last seven games and has notched 12 multiple-hit games this season.
- Senior Johnny Adams recorded his 23rd career sacrifice bunt, which is tied for fourth all-time in BC record books.
- Sophomore Gian Martellini and junior Jake Palomaki doubled in the game – the only two extra-base hits recorded of either team. Martellini has a hit in the last four games, including a double in three of them. He also caught a runner stealing in the first inning.
KEY PLAYS
- The Eagles plated the only run of the game without a hit. Sophomore pinch runner Dominic Hardaway moved around the bases on a sac bunt, groundout and scored on a wild pitch.
- Rapp kept the Pack off the board for ninth innings for the Eagles' first shutout of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles scored in the seventh for the only run of the game. Freshman Jacob Yish was hit by a pitch and Hardaway came in to pinch run. Adams moved him to second with a sac bunt and he advanced to third on a chopper back to the pitcher. Hardaway scored on a wild pitch to give BC the 1-0 lead.
- BC had a chance the inning before, putting two on with two outs. Martellini doubled down the left-field line and junior Mitch Bigras followed with a walk. Alu knocked a base hit to center, but Martellini was gunned down at the plate by centerfielder Josh McLain.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles improve to 14-22 in the all-time series against the Wolfpack and have won eight of the last 11 contests.
- This is the second straight series BC has won over State, and the fifth overall. It is the second series sweep of the Pack and the first under seventh-year head coach Mike Gambino.
- The last time BC swept an ACC series was April 17-19, 2015 when the Eagles took all three games from No. 24 Georgia Tech in Chestnut Hill.
- NC State never led in the series.
- The Eagles did not record an error for the 15th time this season, including the last four games.
- The last time a BC pitcher recorded a complete game was on May 21, 2016 when Justin Dunn went the full nine at Georgia Tech in an 8-3 win.
- Freshman Jacob Yish did not record a hit, ending his career-long, four-game hit streak. He did successfully reach base after being hit by a pitch to extend that streak to six games.
- Freshman Brian Dempsey's career-long hit streak also ended at four games.
NC STATE SERIES
- Alu tallied a .600 batting average against the Wolfpack, logging six hits. He also recorded two runs, two doubles, one RBI and only struck out once.
- Dempsey was second among batters with a .400 batting average.
- Yish, senior Michael Strem and Martellini all had two RBIs in the series.
- All three BC starters – Rapp, sophomores LHP Dan Metzdorf and RHP Jacob Stevens – collected wins on the weekend. Junior RHP Donovan Casey picked up a save in the second game.
- BC pitchers – which also included sophomore RHP John Witkowski – struck out the Pack hitters 16 times, allowed just five walks and only five extra-base hits, all doubles.
