Eagles Earn First in Two Events Against BU and Rhode Island

BC raced six boats in four events Saturday morning.

BOSTON, Mass. – The Boston College rowing team competed on the Charles River early Saturday morning against BU and Rhode Island. BC entered six boats in the four events of the tri-school races.

BC took an early lead in the Varsity Four and extended its lead in the second half of the race to win with a time of 8:01.6, eight seconds ahead of BU (8:09.7), followed by Rhode Island (8:17.3).

In the Second Varsity Four, BC "A" boat took an early lead and kept Rhode Island from passing them. At the half way point, the BC "A" maintained the lead as BC "B" made a push to pass BU for the third-place spot with 500 meters to go. In the final stroke, BC "B" moved ahead of Rhode Island to take second place in the event behind BC "A".

BC had two boats in the Second Varsity Eight Event. The race was close in the first 250 meters but Rhode Island began to pull ahead of four-boat field. The BC "A" crew placed second as BC "B" finished behind BU for fourth.

In the Varsity Eight, the Eagles finished in third behind Rhode Island and Boston University.
