BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Senior Michael Strem led the way for the Eagles at the plate on a 3-for-5 day with an RBI and his 49th career double, which ties him for fourth in BC record books.
- Junior Jake Palomaki was 1-for-4 with a run and walk. He is eighth in program history with 92 career walks as a junior.
- Junior Donovan Casey was the only other BC hitter to tally a multi-hit game, going 2-for-5 with a double. He also struck out the only batter he faced in the eighth.
- Sophomores RHP Jack Nelson and LHP Zach Stromberg and RHP Casey combined to throw 3.2 innings of scoreless relief. They did not record a walk and allowed four hits and three Ks among them.
KEY PLAYS
- Bethune-Cookman held a 3-0 lead in the ninth inning but the Eagles were able to put up two runs with two outs. BCU brought in Alexis Herrera with the tying run on second and he got Casey to chop one to third to end the game.
- The Eagles left eight men in scoring position throughout the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bethune-Cookman scored in the first to take an early, 1-0 lead. Kyle Corbin led off with a base hit to left and moved to second on a sac bunt. After a walk and chopper back to the mound, Corbin scored on a wild pitch. Sophomore left-handed starter Dan Metzdorf got out of the inning with a grounder to short.
- The Wildcats added a run in the third. Cole Parks and Jameel Edney started the inning with back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners. The Eagles turned a 643 double play to get two outs, allowing Parks to score. After giving up two more singles, Metzdorf forced a grounder to end the inning.
- BCU recorded another run in the fifth to take a three-run lead. With one down, Metzdorf allowed a base hit to put two on. Nelson entered and gave up a first-pitch single to bring in one run. He loaded the bases on another single before getting a strikeout and grounder to end the inning.
- The Eagles got within one in their final at bat. With two outs in the inning, Palomaki singled to right center. Senior Johnny Adams hit a high pop up down the right-field line. The first baseman could not make the play on the ball and it landed just fair. Palomaki scored from first and Adams recorded the RBI double. Strem followed with a double off the wall in left center to plate Adams and make it a 3-2 game. The Wildcats went to the bullpen for Herrera, who forced Caseey to chop one to third for the final out.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
