DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Boston College head baseball coach Mike Gambino announced on Thursday that sophomore right-handed pitcher Thomas Lane will be suspended for the 2017 season due to violation of team rules. He will return for the 2018 season.

Lane made 11 appearances in 2016 with seven starts. He registered a 6.83 ERA with a 1-2 record, one combined shutout, 16 walks and 16 strikeouts. He notched his first career victory in his first career start: a career-long, five-inning outing against Northern Illinois on Feb. 21, allowing just two hits, no runs and two walks while striking out two.

The Eagles start the 2017 season in Daytona Beach, Fla., with a three-game set against defending MEAC champions Bethune-Cookman. The series begins on Friday, March 17 at 6 p.m.
