
Forced Fourth Set Fails Eagles

DeJarld and Braakhuis record double-doubles on the match.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Sophomore Jane DeJarld and graduate Lynn Braakhuis both produced double-doubles as Boston College volleyball fell to Louisville in four sets, 25-20, 25-21, 23-25, 25-20, Wednesday night in Chestnut Hill.
Despite two close sets, Louisville came out with the match advantage heading into the third frame. The Eagles found their fight and kicked the third off with an 11-1 run that contributed to forcing a fourth set, in which they fell in a close 25-20.
Braakhuis had match-high 17 kills, adding 12 digs to secure a double-double, while DeJarld led BC with 34 assists, also registering 12 digs for the second double-double. Sophomore Jill Strockis led the match with 20 digs, while senior Sol Calvete was one dig away from being the fourth Eagle with double digit digs.
Melanie McHenry paced the Cardinals with 16 kills, hitting a double-double herself with 12 digs. Wilma Rivera had match-high assists with 37 and Molly Sauer held team-high 18 digs.

BC HIGHLIGHTS
- DeJarld registered her 11th double-double of the season with 34 assists and 12 digs, and Braakhuis recorded her seventh double-double with 17 kills and 16 digs.
- Braakhuis led the match with 17 kills, tying her season high. During the first frame, she registered five kills, 11 total attempts and no errors for a .455 hitting percentage.
- Strockis' 20 digs led the match.
- Sophomore Sophie West hit .333 on the night, notching 6 kills off 15 total attempts with only one error.
- BC produced 52 kills to Louisville's 50, and 79 digs to Louisville's 76.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
The Cardinals accumulated an early 7-1 run to take the lead, then at 14-12, they had another run – 5-2 this time – to lead the Eagles 18-14. They ended the set on another 5-2 run, taking the first frame 25-20.
SET 2
Though the teams began the set evenly matched, at 16-14 Louisville hit a 5-1 run to boost their lead to 20-15. A kill from Braakhuis and two attack errors held the Cardinals to match point for three rallies, but they eventually took a second-set win, 25-21.
SET 3
Stealing an 11-1 run, the Eagles started the third set off with a bang. This run included a kill from freshman Clare Naughton, four kills from Braakhuis, a service ace from junior McKenna Goss, two kills by freshman Amaka Chukwujekwu and a solo block from DeJarld. The squads then traded points until Louisville hit their own long run, 12-0, tying the match at 20-all. A kill from Goss and two from sophomore Cat Balido secured a BC third-set victory, 25-23.
SET 4
A 6-1 run got the Cardinals off on the right start, bringing their lead to 8-3. Kills from Chukwujekwu, DeJarld and Balido contributed to an 8-1 run to tie the set at 12-all. After Louisville reached 20 points first, BC could not reciprocate and fell 25-20.
