Eagles Close Season Falling to Irish

Goss and Braakhuis produce the match’s only double-doubles.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – For the second straight game, two Eagles recorded double-doubles as Boston College volleyball fell to Notre Dame in close, straight sets, 25-23, 25-23, 25-17.
After holding the Irish to set point in the first set for a rally, the Eagles fell, giving the match advantage to Notre Dame. In the second frame, the Eagles had a 23-22 lead until the Irish conjured up three kills to take that set also. With a third-set 8-1 run, the Irish took the lead and did not relinquish it, taking the match in three games.
Junior McKenna Goss registered two team highs - 15 kills and 14 digs - while graduate Lynn Braakhuis notched 11 kills and digs on the match, sealing two double-doubles for BC. Sophomore Jane DeJarld led the Eagles, registering 33 assists on the afternoon, her second most in a three-set match. Following Goss' dig-count was senior Sol Calvete with 13 – a new season high for the outside hitter - and sophomore Jill Strockis with 12.
The Irish were led by Sydney Kuhn's 17 kills, Caroline Holt's 35 assists and Ryann DeJarld's 20 digs.

BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Braakhuis tallied her second straight double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs, while Goss registered her fourth double-double on the season with team-high 15 kills and team-high 14 digs.
- Goss matched her season-high of 14 digs.
- As a squad, the Eagles hit .349 during the second frame. Goss led the set with eight kills in that set alone, three more than the next closest.
- Four Eagles produced double-digit digs: Goss (14), Calvete (13), Strockis (12) and Braakhuis (11). Calvete's 13 digs replace her previous season high.
- DeJarld led the Eagles with 33 assists. This was DeJarld's third match-up with older sister, Ryann DeJarld, libero for Notre Dame.
- Strockis was one assist from adding a third double-double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
Four kills from Braakhuis, Goss and freshman Amaka Chukwujekwu kicked off the set with an Eagles lead, 4-2. When the set was tied up at 7-all, the Irish pulled ahead utilizing a 5-2 run. At a 15-13 lead for Notre Dame, they found another run, 5-1 this time, and took a five-point lead. The Eagles quickly pulled themselves back into the action, a kill from Calvete kicking off a 6-2 run. A fight to end the set ending in Notre Dame triumphing, 25-23.
SET 2
Tied up at 4-all, the Irish kicked off a 5-1, only to be combatted with a 5-2 Eagle run, which included two kills from sophomore Cat Balido, a kill from Goss and a block thanks to sophomore Sophie West and DeJarld. Coming back from being in a one-point deficit, a quick 4-0 run from BC tied the set at 22-all, but the Irish climbed to the finish line, 25-23.
SET 3
An early 8-1 run snatched the lead for Notre Dame right away. At 15-9 Irish, West and freshman Clare Naughton blocked a kill from the Irish, creating a 5-1 run that had three Goss kills. An 8-3 run from Notre Dame sealed the set, 25-17, and the match.
