Coming off a Senior Day win, volleyball hopes to continue the trend
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College volleyball closes its 2017 in Chestnut Hill this weekend, hosting Louisville Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., then will end the season challenging Notre Dame
The Eagles had a spilt weekend, falling to Duke in four sets, but claimed their seventh win of the season with a sweep over Wake Forest on Senior Day, where seniors Sol Calvete, Brittany Pavich and graduate Lynn Braakhuis were honored. Braakhuis led the weekend with 23 kills followed by junior McKenna Goss (20 kills). Sophomore Jane DeJarld secured 64 assists on the weekend and tallied her 10th double-double of the season against Duke. With 24 digs, sophomore Jill Strockis led the defensive presence this weekend.
Louisville holds a 22-6 overall record for 2017, while being 16-2 in conference play – the two ACC losses came at North Carolina early in the season then during its second meeting with Miami. The Cardinals are on a nine-game win streak that the Eagles are looking to shatter. The Eagles fell to the Cardinals in Louisville during the last pairing in three sets.
Sophomore Melanie McHenry paces Louisville offensively, tallying 364 kills on the season to be eighth in ACC kills, while junior Wilma Rivera has registered 1097 assists, earning third in the ACC in assists. With 418 digs, junior Molly Sauer drives the Cardinals' defensive force.
Notre Dame has a 21-8 overall record and an 11-7 ACC record. Though the Fighting Irish are on a five-game winning streak, they will confront Syracuse before taking to The Heights. This will be the 20th meet-up in the pair's history, and though the Eagles fell in three frames the last time, they are looking to down the Dame.
Jemma Yeadon leads the Irish with 408 kills on the season. With 1115, Caroline Holt paces the team with assists and Ryann DeJarld – older sister to setter Jane DeJarld – has 680 digs thus far, putting her first amongst ACC student-athletes.
Both matches will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
