A Very Birdball Christmas
January 20, 2017 | Baseball
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - On Jan. 16, a day before spring classes started, the Boston College baseball team reunited as an entire group to have a belated holiday celebration. In a tradition that started last year, the senior class cooked dinner for the entire team, staff, families and Jesuits at the Saint Peter Faber Jesuit Community in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Team chaplain, Chris Calderón, who created the event and oversees the kitchen during the process, was studying in Spain during the fall semester. The Eagles wanted to celebrate with Calderón and waited for his return to continue the new tradition.Â
In all, 18 pounds of meatballs, 16 loaves of bread, 12 pounds of pasta, four pounds of cheese, five gallons of sauce and almost two pounds of garlic were consumed. The Gold team - which lost the 2016 Sonny Nictakis Fall World Series - was on clean up duty.Â
