McCoy Factors in Five Goals in Victory over Northeastern

Eryn McCoy nets a hat trick and two assists to lead the Eagles over the Huskies, 8-1
DEDHAM, Mass. – Eryn McCoy factored in five of the team's eight goals as the 18th-ranked Boston College field hockey team earned an 8-1 victory over cross-town rival Northeastern on Sunday afternoon.
A pair of Eagles – McCoy and Brittany Sheenan – recorded hat tricks, while McCoy also added two assists. Emily McCoy and Lucy Lytle notched single goals, while Frederique Haverhals recorded two assists.
The Eagles jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead as Sheenan netted her first of three goals on the day just 3:41 into the game. Northeastern tied it up at 12:02 through June Curry-Lindahl, but Eryn McCoy scored her first goal at 15:29 to put BC ahead for good.
Although Boston College took a 2-1 lead into the intermission, the team came out flying in the second half. The Eagles scored two goals in the first five minutes of the second half, and six total in the stanza.
Sheenan came up with her second goal at 36:41, while Lytle scored off a corner at 39:32. Sheenan added her third – off a penalty corner – at 44:39, before Emily McCoy struck almost 10 minutes later on a fast break at 54:21. Eryn McCoy tallied her second of the game less than two minutes later when she lifted a pass over replacement goalkeeper Julia Ennis at 56:14, and then she wrapped up the scoring at 58:02 when she converted off a penalty corner.
In goal, Audra Hampsch made three saves for her fourth victory of the season.
BC (4-3, 1-1 ACC) returns to action on Friday, Sept. 23, when the team hosts No. 14 Virginia at the Newton Field Hockey Complex.
