Team
- Virginia Tech moved to 2-1 on the season with a 49-0 victory over Boston College Saturday at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Va.
- Boston College is now 16-7 in the all-time series against Virginia Tech. The Eagles are 5-9 since joining the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2005, and are 4-7 in Blacksburg.
- The Eagles were last shutout on Sept. 18, 2015 in a 14-0 loss to No. 9/6 Florida State.
- BC's 44-yard rushing total was the team's lowest since posting 28 yards rushing at NC State on Nov. 7, 2015.
- The Eagles' defense allowed 532 yards to Virginia Tech, the most it surrendered since Oct. 17, 2015 at Clemson. The Hokies tallied 223 yards rushing, the most allowed by the BC defense since allowing 303 to Pittsburgh on Sept. 5, 2014.
Offense
- Sophomore TE Tommy Sweeney had a career day, setting a career high with 30 receiving yards on two catches. His 22-yard catch in the first quarter tied his career long.
- Redshirt freshman RB Davon Jones set a career-high with 17 rushing yards on five carries.
- Graduate QB Patrick Towles was 9-for-28 with 80 passing yards and one interception. He also had 17 yards on the ground.
- Redshirt sophomore QB Darius Wade saw his first action of the season, playing the fourth quarter and gaining four yards on the ground.
- Junior WR Thadd Smith recorded his first catch of the season on a 12-yard reception late in the second quarter. He caught two passes for 14 yards.
Defense
- Senior DT Kevin Kavalec tallied 10 tackles, tying his career high, which he first established on Oct. 25, 2014 at Wake Forest. He is the first BC player to tally double-digit tackles in 2016.
- Sophomore DB William Harris set a new career high in tackles registering eight in the game.
- Junior DT Noa Merritt recorded the first tackle for a loss of his career in the second quarter, coming on a five-yard loss.
- Sophomore DE Zach Allen recorded the Eagles' only sack on the day, pushing his total to 2.5 on the season.
- Senior DB John Johnson recorded his first interception of the season and fourth of his career, returning it for a career-long 19 yards.
Special Teams
- Junior P/K Mike Knoll broke the BC record for punts in a single game with 13. He finished the day with 537 total yards, averaging 41.3 yards per punt with a long of 51.
- Senior RB Myles Willis gained 46 yards on two kick returns increasing his career total to 1,725, still fourth in BC record books.
