Mannelly and Kent receive first team All-Northeast Region while Erdle, Weeks earn second team accolades
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (IWLCA) -Â Four Boston College Eagles were among 32 Division I student-athletes named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-Northeast Region Team, as announced by the organization on Friday. They were part of the 128 collegiate players across the four lacrosse regions to earn recognition for this honor.Â
Senior Sarah Mannelly and sophomore Kenzie Kent were both named to the All-Northeast Regional First Team while senior Molly Erdle and junior Kate Weeks received All-Northeast Regional Second Team accolades. These student-athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on Wednesday May 18.
Entering the 2016 NCAA Tournament, Sarah Mannelly leads the team with 69 points on 36 goals and 33 assists. She moved into third place in both the program's all-time points list and all-time goals list while her 79 career assists is fourth best amongst program players all-time. A Tewaaraton nominee for the second straight year, the New Canaan, Conn. native was recently named to the All-ACC First Team. This is the second year that she received the IWLCA accolade.
Joining Mannelly on the IWLCA All-Northeast Regional First Team is 2015 IWLCA Rookie member Kenzie Kent. After joining the team for their March 26 game vs. North Carolina following the conclusion of the BC Women's Ice Hockey postseason run that saw them take a perfect 40-0-0 record into the National Championship game, she has recorded 35 points on 18 goals and 17 assists. After tallying the second most points all-time in program history against Dartmouth on April 12, she recorded six assists against Harvard eight days later, also the second most in program history for a single game. She was recently named to All-ACC Second Team. Her 10-point performance in the Dartmouth game is also the most points scored by an ACC player in a game this season.Â
Senior Molly Erdle received her first ever IWLCA recognition following a campaign that saw her collect a team-high 37 ground balls over the season while helping a young defense, that included two starting freshmen, adjust to the collegiate level. She was one of four captains who led the team in 2016.
Wrapping up the quartet of Eagles named to the list is junior Kate Weeks, whose 2016 season has been a breakout year for the attack from Princeton, New Jersey. In her 18 games, she has recorded a team-leading 40 goals in addition to two assists while also leading the team with 12 multi-goal games. Since becoming a mainstay in the starting lineup vs. UNC, she has seen several personal best marks, including both career highs in points (7) and goals (6), a feat she achieved against Harvard on April 20. This was the first IWLCA recognition for Weeks.Â
These four individuals helped the Eagles to 10-7 regular season record before bowing out to Syracuse in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament on April 28. The maroon and gold take on Stony Brook in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, May 13, at 4 pm at the Newton Campus Lacrosse Field.Â
