GAME NOTES
- This marks the fourth straight year and the fifth time overall that the Eagles have qualified for the NCAA tournament. In tournament play, the maroon and gold are 2-4. Last season, after earning a bye in the first round, BC fell to Loyola (Md.) by a score of 19-12, a game in which 2015 Tewaaraton Award finalist Sarah Mannelly suffered a lower body injury that caused her to miss much of the game. In 2011 and 2013, BC was also knocked out in the first round of the tournament. However, in 2014, the Eagles advanced to the Elite Eight after bouncing both Bryant and Loyola from the bracket. They fell to Syracuse in their round of eight game by a mere two points, 11-9.
- For the six members of the senior class, (Emily Zlevor, Sarah Mannelly, Kara Magley, Kate Rich, Molly Erdle and Caroline Margolis), they become the first class in program history to make the tournament in each of their four years on The Heights. With a combined 52 wins by this class, they are tied with the class of 2015 as the winningest class in program history. A victory over Stony Brook would make them the most victorious class in program history.
- The Eagles and their first round opponent, Stony Brook, have faced off three previous times between 2004 and 2006. BC is 3-0 in the all-time series.Â
- Entering the tournament, BC is second in the conference and sixth in the nation with an average of 13.89 draw controls per game. Maryland leads the pool nationally while Syracuse holds the ACC lead with an average of 14.45 draw controls per game. With 12.39 turnovers per game, BC has the third best turnover rate amongst ACC teams and the 19th best in the nation. They are also ranked 19th in the nation in scoring offense, averaging 12.39 points per game.
- Individually, Sarah Mannelly is ranked first in assists per game (1.83), a mark that is 16th best in the nation, and is seocnd in the conference and 17th in the nation in total assists (33). With 69 points, she ranks third in the ACC and 19th in the nation.Â
- Molly Erdle is ranked third in the conference and 24th nationally in caused turnovers per game with a mark of 1.78 while junior Kate Weeks' 2.22 goals per game total is the sixth most amongst conference players.Â
- With the entrance into the 2016 NCAA Tournament, coach Acacia Walker has now participated in 13 of the last 14 NCAA Tournaments as either a player or a coach. She qualified for the tourney in each of her four years as a player at Maryland, won three straight National Championships as the assistant coach at Northwestern from 2006-2008, and has made it in six of the seven years that she split between Massachusetts and BC.
- Additionally, assistant coach Brooke Griffin brings an array of tournament experience as she won the national championship the last two years as a player at Maryland. In her sophomore year, she lost in the Championship final and the year before that, she lost in the championship semifinals.Â
