Boston College (10-7, 2-5 ACC)
vs. Syracuse (14-4, 5-2 ACC)
ACC Quarterfinals // Thursday, April 28 // 5 pm
GAME NOTES:
- When the Eagles face Syracuse in the quarterfinal round (5pm, ESPN3/NESN), the team will look for the success they found against the Orange on March 19, when they held them to a season low eight goals in a 13-8 victory for the maroon and gold.Â
- Since joining the ACC prior to the 2006 season, BC is 2-10 all-time in the ACC Championship Tournament, with the Eagles advancing to the semifinal round in both 2011 and 2013. In last season's conference tournament, BC fell to Syracuse in double overtime, 14-13.Â
- All-time against the Orange, the maroon and gold are 2-13, with wins coming in two of the last three meetings between the two schools. BC earned its first ever win against 'Cuse on February 28, 2015 (10-9) and its second earlier this year (13-8). Earlier this season, Mannelly scored four goals and two assists to net ACC offensive player of the week accolades while Dempsey Arsenault was named ACC defensive player of the week. Sam Apuzzo, who had three goals and an assist, was named Inside Lacrosse National Rookie of the Week following that contest.Â
- Entering the conference championships, Boston College is third in draw controls per game (14.06), which is seventh best in the nation, while they are fourth in assists per game (5.47), points per game (17.94), scoring offense (12.47) and turnovers per game (12.47). The team is 19th and 20th in the nation, respectively, in scoring offense and turnovers per game.Â
- Individually, Sarah Mannelly is first in the conference and 11th in the nation in assists (31) while Molly Erdle is fourth in the conference and 23rd in the nation in caused turnovers per game (1.82).Â
- Tournament Records of Note: Assistant coach Brooke Griffin's record of 7 goals in an ACC Tournament game (vs. Virginia, 2014) puts her in a tie for most all-time while BC's 20 All-ACC selections is fifth most all-time amongst ACC opponents. The 2016 All-ACC Team is expected to be announced on April 27. Â
- In April 23rd's loss to Hopkins, Sarah Mannelly's team high four points (2G, 2A) pushed her into a tie for third place all-time on the career points list. With 248 points, she ties Lauren Costello (2007-10) mark.
LAST TIME OUT
- On senior day, BC dropped a 12-9 decision to Johns Hopkins after the Blue Jays erupted for nine second half goals.
