Stevens Named To Midseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List

The freshman is second in the ACC in ERA
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College freshman Jacob Stevens was named to USA Baseball's 60-player midseason Golden Spikes Award watch list on Wednesday. The right-handed freshman starter is second in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 1.17 ERA.

The Golden Spikes Award is presented to the top amateur baseball player in the country. The 2015 Golden Spikes Award winner will be named on June 30, at a presentation in Los Angeles.

The Darien, Conn., product is 10th in the nation for his sub-2.00 ERA and he ranks ninth, allowing just 4.89 hits per nine innings. His .157 opponent batting average is a league best while his 49 strikeouts are tied for eighth.

In 46 career innings, Stevens has allowed just eight runs – six earned – and walked just 18 batters. He threw a career-high 6.1 innings against then-No. 22 Clemson on March 20, surrendering his first earned run of the year. He allowed six hits, one run, did not walk a batter and struck out three. He struck out a career-high nine against North Dakota State on March 5 in just the third start of his career, going six innings without allowing a hit and walking just one. In his first Friday start against then-No. 16 Virginia on April 8, Stevens went six innings, gave up just one hit, one unearned run, walked five and struck out six. He surrendered a career-high four runs to Notre Dame on April 15, but did not walk a batter while striking out seven.
