BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior right-handed starter Mike King threw 8.1 innings, his longest outing of the 2016 season, gave up eight hits, three runs - two earned - two walks and struck out one. He also forced 15 groundball outs and eight straight batters between the sixth and eighth innings.
- Senior Joe Cronin, junior Nick Sciortino and sophomore Donovan Casey were the only BC batters to tally hits off FSU pitching. Sciortino notched his second double of the season.
KEY PLAYS
- After four innings of scoreless baseball, the Noles plated a run in the fifth and while the Eagles threatened in the bottom of the inning with Sciortino's lead-off double, they could not even the score.
- FSU reliever Jim Voyles retired the all nine BC batters faced and Tyler Warmoth closed out the game, allowing just one base runner with a hit by pitch.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the pitchers' duel, the Seminoles were the first to strike, tallying a run in the fifth. With two down, Matt Henderson laced one in the gap between first and second. Sophomore first baseman Mitch Bigras found the ball on the dive, but as he threw from his knees, the ball went slightly wide of King covering the ball. Taylor Walls drove one to left center to plate the Henderson before King got a popup to end the inning.
- The Eagles threatened to even the score in the bottom of the inning but could not cross the plate Sciortino led off with a double to right and sophomore Jake Palomaki attempted to bunt him over to third. Pitcher Mike Compton threw to third to go for the lead runner and on a close play, Sciortino was ruled out. Cronin flied out and Palomaki was caught stealing to end the inning.
- The Seminoles added two runs in the ninth to go up by three. Jackson Lueck led off the inning with a double and with one down, Ben DeLuzio knocked one off the wall in right center to plate a run. Sophomore RHP Brian Rapp relieved King and got a fly ball to right for the second out. DeLuzio tagged up to third on the play and scored on an error at third. Rapp got a chopper to second to get out of the inning.
- The only other time the Eagles threatened was in the fourth inning when they loaded the bases. Casey led off with a single to left and with two down, junior Michael Strem and senior Logan Hoggarth drew walks. Compton forced junior Johnny Adams to chop one back up the middle to the shortstop to get out of the jam.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Florida State has now won the last 10 meetings between the two squads.
- The Eagles were shutout for just the second time this season. The first was on March 25 at Pittsburgh.
- The three-hit total tied a season low for the Eagles. They also recorded just three hits at then eighth-ranked NC State in Raleigh on March 13 but won the game, 1-0.
