Maroon and Gold begin 25th Season Friday

Eagles take on Boston University as first of four straight road games to begin the 2016 season
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College kicks off its 25th season as a Division I program on February 12 when they travel down Commonwealth Ave for a Valentine's Day weekend battle with rival Boston University at the Terrier's Nickerson Field. GAME NOTES
- This will be the 17th matchup between the two schools all-time and the seventh with the Eagles as the visiting team.
- Boston College and Boston University have split the all-time series eight apiece with the Eagles having won the last six games by a combined score of 95-56.
- This is the earliest that the two schools have ever played each other. Eight previous matchups took place in March; six took place in April and the last two matchup's occurred in May as the regular season finale for the Maroon and Gold.
-  In the 2015 battle between BC and BU, the Eagles built on a 7-3 halftime lead by scoring 10 second half goals en route to defeating the visitors by a final score of 17-9. Then senior attack Covie Stanwick led all Eagles with six points (5-1-6) while 2015 IWLCA All-Rookie selection Kenzie Kent netted four goals and Sarah Mannelly added three of her own in the victory. It was also the final regular season home game for the Eagles six graduating seniors:Lauren Bronson, Rachel Igoe, Erin Kickham, Mikaela Rix, Stephanie Sabatini and Covie Stanwick.
- All time, Boston College is 13-11 in its season openers, with the Eagles having won its last seven opening day games.
- The Eagles have won its last four regular season games dating back to last season, with wins coming vs. Harvard (19-13), at Virginia Tech (13-11), at New Hampshire (20-7) and vs. BU (17-9). The last regular season loss for the Eagles came vs. Duke on April 4, 2015 (13-8). BC fell in the ACC Quarterfinals to Syracuse (14-13, 2OT) and to Loyola (Md.) in the NCAA Tournament (19-12) during that span.
LAST TIME OUT
- Boston College fell in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on May 10, 2015 to Loyola (Md.), 19-12. At the time, junior midfielder Kara Magley recorded a career-high eight draw controls while defender Molly Erdle tied a career high with three caused turnovers.Â
SEASON HEADLINES OF NOTE
- 2016 marks the 25th season as a Division I program for the Boston College Women's Lacrosse team
- With four wins this season, Boston College will earn its 200th win as a Division IÂ program
- The Eagles return three of its top five scorers from last season in Sarah Mannelly (50-17-67), Caroline Margolis (37-28-65) and Tess Chandler (28-8-36) and will look to fill the void left by its top scorer Covie Stanwick (50-26-76), a 2015 IWLCA First Team All-American and the all-time leading scorer in Boston College history (309 points on 196 goals)
- The Eagles will also welcome back sophomore Kenzie Kent, who notched 22 goals and three assists over the final eight games of last season. The daughter of assistant coach Jennifer Kent, the midfielder from Norwell, Mass. will return to the Eagles sideline upon completion of the 2015-16 BC Women's Hockey season, where she plays forward for one of the nation's top programs
- BC will seek its fourth straight NCAA appearance in 2016 and its fifth in six years. BC is 2-4 all time in tournament play and have advanced as far as the quarterfinals
- Boston College has 10 freshmen on this year's roster, which tied the 2015 squad for the most freshmen on the team in the past 10 years.
- The 2016 season will be the fourth for head coach Acacia Walker at the helm of the Eagles program. The Maryland '05 grad has been part of 12 of the last 13 NCAA appearances as either a player or coach. Her .700 winning percentage as a coach to begin the season (42-18) is the highest amongst BC lacrosse coaches all-time
- Joining the Eagles on the sideline this year is first year assistant coach Brooke Griffin, who graduated from Maryland in May 2015. She was a 2015 Tewaaraton nominee and a 2015 IWLCA All-American. She was also named the Big 10 Attack Player of the Year and won the past two National Championships
- Senior Sarah Mannelly returns for her senior season as the first-ever Boston College Tewaaraton Award finalist, a feat she accomplished during her 67 point junior campaign. She enters the season 19 points shy of 200 career tallies. She would become the seventh player in BC history to achieve 200 career points. Her 135 career goals are eighth most at BC and with 15 goals this season, she would become only the sixth player to record 150 goals at Boston College
- Senior midfielder Caroline Margolis is 11 points shy of becoming the 20th member of the Boston College 100 point club. With 12 assists, she would also become only the sixth player in BC history to tally 50 career assists.
- Boston College has two Preseason All-Americans on its roster in 2016. Midfielder Sarah Mannelly was named an Inside Lacrosse and Lacrosse Magazine First Team All-American while fellow midfielder Caroline Margolis received Second Team All-American accolades.
THE SCHEDULE AHEAD
- BC will continue with its early season road trip on Wednesday, Feb. 17 when the Eagles travel to Worcester for a 3:30 pm bout with Holy Cross. They follow that up with its first two ACC contests at Notre Dame (Feb 21, noon ET) and at Louisville (Feb 28, noon ET)
