BOSTON COLLEGE vs. DARTMOUTH
Overall: 5-20-3
Home: 2-12-1
Away: 3-8-1Â Â Â
NCAA: 1-0-0Â Â Â
- SERIES NOTES
- Since Boston College elevated to varsity status in 1994-95, Dartmouth holds the edge in the all-time series, 20-5-3
- BC is 3-8-1 in Hanover, and 2-12-1 at Kelley Rink
- The teams met at least one every season from 2004-05 through 2014-15 before taking a break from the series last year
- Overall, the programs have met at least once per year since BC elevated to varsity status except three seasons: 2002-03, 2003-04 and 2015-16
- Dartmouth won the first 10 meetings and went 18-0-1 in the first 19 meetings before BC's first-ever win over the Big Green
- BC's first win over Dartmouth was one of the program's signature wins: a 3-2, overtime victory on the road in the 2007 NCAA Quarterfinals, sending the Eagles to their first-ever NCAA Frozen Four
- Since that Boston College win in 2007, BC is 5-2-2 against Dartmouth - including a 2-2-2 mark in Hanover
- In that span, the Eagles are also 3-0-0 at Kelley Rink against the Big Green
- PLAYER NOTES
- Only eight current players have appeared in games against Dartmouth: the junior and senior classes
- Andie Anastos has recorded points in each of her contests against Dartmouth ... she scored one goal and added an assist as a freshman on Oct. 20, 2013 Â ... as a sophomore, she posted an assist on Dec. 10, 2014
- Capizzano tallied the then game-tying goal in her freshman season before the Eagles went on to claim a 7-2 win with a six-goal second period
- Haley McLean's assist came as a freshman on Anastos' goal
- Megan Keller and Kenzie Kent both picked up assists in the contest during their freshman season in the Eagles' 6-1 road win on Dec. 10, 2014
- Katie Burt posted the win in goal in 2014, making a then-career high 29 saves en route to the 6-1 win
- COACHING NOTES
- Katie Crowley is 4-2-2 against the Big Green
- Eagles assistant coach Gillian Apps was a four-year letterwinner at Dartmouth. She was an AHCA All-American and the Ivy League Player of the Year in 2007. Apps finished her career with 157 points to rank seventh on the Dartmouth career list and fourth on the career goals list (90).
LET'S BREAK, ON 1
- Wednesday's game is the Eagles' final game before college hockey's traditional winter break
- Following the game at Dartmouth, the Eagles will take four weeks off from competition before returning to the ice at home on Wednesday, Jan. 4 against Syracuse
OVER THE HALFWAY MARK IN LEAGUE PLAY
- BC will enter the winter break already on the back side of the 24-game Hockey East schedule
- BC has played 13 games in conference already, posting a league-best 10-2-1 mark in those games for 21 points
- The Eagles hold a five-point lead over Northeastern (7-4-2, 16 pts.) in the standings as the Huskies, Boston University (14 pts.) and New Hampshire (13 pts.) have all played 13 games, as well
- When the New Year comes, BC will have just 11 league games left: one each against BU, Connecticut and Northeastern, two vs. Providence and three each vs. Merrimack and Vermont
PROGRAM'S THIRD-BEST FIRST-HALF MARK ON THE LINE
- A win on Wednesday would give the Eagles a 12-3-3 record heading into the break
- That mark would be the team's third-best mark at the December interval in program history behind the Eagles' records the last two seasons: 20-0-0 in 2015-16 and 17-0-1 in 2014-15
- In 2012-13, BC was 11-3-2 at the break - currently the third-best mark at the holiday break
RETURNING TO THE SCENE OF BC HISTORY
- On Wednesday, Boston College will make the trek to the site of one of its biggest wins in program history
- On March 10, 2007, BC earned its first-ever win over Dartmouth, claiming a 3-2 victory over the third-ranked Big Green at Thompson Arena in the NCAA Quarterfinals
- That win sent the Eagles to their first-ever Frozen Four
- It took BC four more years to return to the Frozen Four in 2011, but since that season, BC has appeared in five of the last six Frozen Fours and six times overall
- BC assistant coach Gillian Apps was a senior captain on that Dartmouth team in 2007, and the loss to the Eagles was the final game of her collegiate career
SCORING HEATING UP AS TEMPERATURES DROP
- Boston College now claims the nation's top offense, averaging 3.76 goals per game
- Since the start of November, BC's offense has heated up, averaging 4.86 goals per game in seven games
- BC opened the season averaging just 3.11 goals per game in its first nine contests
- In September/October, the Eagles scored five or more goals just once - a 5-1 win over Maine on Oct. 9 - but have done so four times in seven games since the start of November
CLOSING THE YEAR ON A HIGH NOTE?
- Boston College has gone 8-1-1 in its last 10 games and 4-0-1 in its last five games
- The Eagles' lone loss in this recent stretch came at Boston University on Nov. 5 when the Terriers stormed back to claim a 5-3 win at Walter Brown Arena after entering the third period down 2-0
- During this run, the Eagles have played seven road games, going 5-1-1 in those games, plus a 3-0-0 home mark
EAGLES STILL PACING HOCKEY EAST
- Despite notching two league losses - the team's most since 2013-14 when they had two in the 21-game season - Boston College is still pacing the league in almost every statistic, including the standings
- After last Saturday's win, the Eagles now have a league-best 10-2-1 record and a conference-topping 21 points ... BC leads second-place Northeastern (7-4-2) by five points, and third-place Boston University by seven (7-6-0)
- In Hockey East games, BC is the conference's top scoring team (4.23 goals per game), has scored the most goals (55), is top defensive team (1.62 goals allowed per game), has the top power play (25.4 percent), best penalty kill (94.6 percent) and best net special teams (+16)
- BC is also the only team in Hockey East ranked in every edition of both the USCHO and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls this season
SPECIAL TEAMS DOING SPECIAL THINGS
- Boston College's special teams have been hot this season
- The Eagles are second in the nation in combined special teams, proving successful in 99-of-168 opportunities this season (58.9 percent)
- On the power play, BC ranks second nationally with a 27.6 percent conversion (24-for-87) ... the team's 24 power-play goals are most in the nation
- On the penalty kill, the Eagles rank third nationally with a 92.6 percent success rate (75-for-81) while scoring four shorthanded goals - third-most nationally
- So far this season, 28 of the Eagles' 64 goals have come via special teams (24 PPGs, 4 SHGs)
THREE HEADED TO NATIONAL TEAM CAMP ON SUNDAY
- A trio of Eagles - Katie Burt, Kali Flanagan and Megan Keller - will attend U.S. National Team training camp next week ahead of Team USA's two-game series against Canada
- They will join six other Eagles - past and future - in Plymouth, Mich., for the four-day camp ahead of the games on Dec. 17 (Plymouth, Mich.) and 19 (Sarnia, Ontario)
- Also called into the camp: signee Cayla Barnes '21, Alex Carpenter '16, Emily Pfalzer '15, Haley Skarupa '16, Kelli Stack '11 and Dana Trivigno '16
BURT MAKES HOCKEY EAST HISTORY
- Katie Burt's 17-save shutout on Saturday at Providence was the 26th shutout of her career overall, and her 18th shutout in Hockey East play
- It moved her into a tie for the Hockey East career shutout record (in league games), matching Melissa Bourdon who also had 18 at UNH (2003-07)
- With the record, Burt earned her seventh career Hockey East defensive player of the week honor, and her 11th conference weekly honor in her career overall
- Burt's first opportunity to claim the career shutout record for her own will come on Jan. 7 when BC hosts Boston University - its next league game
- Overall, Burt's 26 career shutouts rank eighth in NCAA history ... she is just three back of seventh place (Erica Howe/Clarkson '14) at 29 and four back of a tie for fifth place with Bourdon and Alex Rigsby/Wisconsin '14
NEWKIRK SURGING TO THE TOP OF THE LEAGUE
- Makenna Newkirk has been the Eagles' hottest player in their last 10 games, posting a team-best 18 points in that span
- She has collected all but two of her 20 points on the season in the last 10 games
- Newkirk is now tied atop the conference's scoring chart with 18 points (4 goals, 14 assists) in the Eagles' 13 Hockey East games, matching BU's Victoria Bach (10-8-18)
- On Saturday, Newkirk posted a career-best four-point effort with four assists in the Eagles' 8-0 road win at Providence
- Newkirk has recorded points in eight of the Eagles' last 10 games, including five multiple-point contests ... she has a trio of three-point games and one four-point game in that stretch
ANASTOS IS THE EAGLES' ANCHOR
- Captain Andie Anastos has been the team's anchor this season, leading the Eagles to an 8-1-3 mark in games in which she's played all three periods
- She picked up two points (1 goal, 1 assist) in the season-opening 3-3 tie at Minnesota Duluth, then was injured in the first period the following night
- While Anastos dressed for the next four games, she did not play a single shift in those games - returning to the ice formally on Oct. 21 in the team's 0-0 tie against No. 3 Quinnipiac
- She has posted 17 points (8 goals, 9 assists) in 13 full games and has centered the top line in every game she's played
- Not only does Anastos center the top line, she is also on the first unit of both the power play and the penalty kill
THE BIG 5-0 FOR ANASTOS
- With her goal at Providence on Dec. 3, Andie Anastos became the 12th player in program history to notch 50 goals
- She scored 14 goals in each of her first three seasons and has eight so far this year
MIANO MAKING HERSELF COMFORTABLE ON THE SCORESHEET
- Many people are aware of the Eagles' offensively minded defensemen in recent seasons (Blake Bolden, Emily Pfalzer, Lexi Bender and Megan Keller), but Toni Ann Miano has worked her way into that conversation
- The Eagles' junior is Hockey East's leading scorer among defensemen in both league games (12 pts.) and all games (15 pts.)
- Nationally, Miano is tied for fourth among all defensemen in points (15) and points per game (0.94)
- Miano is in the midst of a four-game point streak - the longest of her career - during which she's collected eight points (2.00 points per game)
BELINSKAS BREAKING OUT
- Freshman Delaney Belinskas has seemingly made her adjustment to the college game
- After notching points in just two of the Eagles' first nine games (which did include a four-goal game against Maine on Oct. 9), Belinskas has now recorded at least one point in seven of the team's last eight games
- She comes into Wednesday's game with the team's longest active point streak at five games, during which time she's registered nine points (4 goals, 5 assists)
- Belinskas' 17 points are tied for third on the team and her 11 goals are the most on the squad
- Nationally, Belinskas' 17 points rank fifth among all freshmen, and her 11 goals are second-most among first-year players
- In Hockey East play, she's ranked fourth in scoring (16 points) and second in goals (10)
THIRD AND FOURTH LINES GETTING INTO THE ACTION
- At Providence on Dec. 3, five of the six players on the Eagles' third and fourth lines got into the scoring action
- From the third line, Ryan Little (one goal) and Erin Connolly (two goals, one assist) combined for four points
- On the fourth line, Kate Annese scored her first career goal while Bridget McCarthy and Molly Slowe each picked up assists in the game
- Overall, only one regular skater remains point-less on the season: freshman Rachel Moore, who has appeared in 15 games without a point
FUTURE EAGLES WILL BE BUSY THIS JANUARY
- With the winter international rosters slowly being released, we already know two of the three already-announced members of the Class of 2021 will be busy
- Both Maegan Beres and Daryl Watts were named to Hockey Canada's team for the 2017 IIHF World Championship in the Czech Republic, Jan. 7-14
- Watts was a member of the silver-medal winning squad last year, while Beres will be making her Canadian U18 debut at the tournament
