BC HIGHLIGHTS
- The Boston College men's track and field team opened its indoor season on Saturday at the BU Track and Tennis Center, participating in the BU Season Opener meet.
- Coming off of an impressive 2015-16 season, senior Obinna Nwankwo took to the 300m on Saturday. Nwankwo won his heat with his time of 34.78, landing him in 10th place overall. Junior Nick Nash also ran in the 300m. Nash won his heat in 34.89 and finished just behind Nwankwo in 12th place overall.
- In the 500m, sophomores Michael Saxon and Oliver Boucher crossed the line in back-to-back places. Saxon took third place with his time of 1:06.26, and Boucher was close behind in fourth place in 10:06.61.
- In a hotly contested 1000m race, sophomore Ian Ritchie finished strong for a fifth-place finish in 2:27.58, landing him qualification for the IC4A Championships in March.
- Sophomore Benjamin Osipow and senior Michael Stephens ran in the mile for the Eagles. Osipow took home sixth place overall in 4:19.41, and Stephens closed out his race in 4:31.23, good for 10th overall.
- In the field events, freshman Avery McKenzie debuted in the triple jump for BC. The rookie leaped to a third-place finish of 14.01m (45'11.75").
- The Eagles wrapped up the opener with the 4x400m relay. The team of Saxon, Nash, sophomore Mikhail Bethell, and Nwankwo combined for a second place finish in 3:21.14.
UP NEXT
The Eagles return to competition the weekend of Jan. 8, where they will head to Hanover, N.H., to participate in the Dartmouth Relays.
