BOSTON COLLEGE vs. CONNECTICUT
It seems to be annual "tradition" that when the Eagles play Connecticut on the road, it comes on a school night as Boston College will take on the Huskies Tuesday night at the XL Center. In the two teams' first-ever meeting, UConn shocked the Eagles on a Wednesday night (Nov. 5, 2014) by upsetting BC, 1-0, after Boston College transfer Evan Richardson scored the game-winning goal. Last year, Boston College avenged its lost on Nov. 24, 2015 on a Tuesday night, upended UConn, 5-1. Since that opening defeat in 2014, BC has not lost to UConn since (2-0-1). The Eagles hosted Connecticut last season on Jan. 23, 2016, the night immediately following head coach Jerry York's 1,000th-career victory at Massachusetts. Another large in tie-in to the BC - UConn series is the relationship with Huskies' head coach Mike Cavanaugh. Cavanaugh became as assistant coach at Boston College before the 1995-96 season and was promoted to associate head coach in 2004. Cavanaugh assisted York for 773 games and helped the Eagles win four national titles in 2001, 2008, 2010 and 2012.
UCONN RECONNAISSANCE
The Huskies skate into Tuesday's tilt fresh off of a split with Boston University, including a 4-0 skunking of the Terriers on their home ice of Agganis Arena on Saturday, Nov. 19. As a whole, UConn touts an even .500 record of 4-4-5 and is the only team in college hockey to have skated to as many draws ( 5 ). The sophomore duo of Tage Thompson and Max Letunov lead UConn in scoring, respectively, with 15 (7-8-15) and 11 (4-7-11) points. Thompson is tied for 46th in all of college hockey in scoring (1.15 ppg) and is one of 29 skaters in the NCAA with at least four power play goals. The UConn goaltender duties are completely split, as senior Rob Nichols (2-2-3) and newcomer Adam Huska (2-2-2) have been anchoring the Huskies' 20th-ranked defense (2.62). Combined, the two have shutout three opponents. The offense is operating at a clip of 3.00 gpg, tied for 27th in the NCAA.
TRENDING UP
Boston College has been lighting the lamp often lately, having scored an aggregate of 49 goals in its last 11 outings. The Eagles are now averaging just under four goals per game (3.86 gpg) on the season which is tied for fourth best in all of college hockey and the most productive offensive unit in all of Hockey East.
RUNS IN THE FAMILY
Following the 5-2 setback at Harvard, senior winger Matthew Gaudreau emerged as Boston College's leading point scorer, having accounted for 14 points in as many games. The Carneys Point, N.J. native is averaging 1.00 points per game which is tied for 63rd in all of college hockey and tied for 11th in Hockey East. Gaudreau has already matched last year's goal scoring total (4) and is only seven points shy of his entire total from the 2015-16 season.
POINT PRODUCTION
There are only two other teams in college hockey that have scored as many points as Boston College has this season (Penn State - 165 / Ohio State - 162). The Eagles have logged both the third-most goals (54) and assists (100) in the NCAA thus far making their total of 154 points the third best in the game. Boston College has also tallied the 10th-highest average of shots on net to this point, triggering 33 attempts per outing.
IN THE RED
The Eagles are outscoring their opponent at a significant margin and are tied for the fourth-best mark in the NCAA. Boston College's + 1.57 goal differential is the best in Hockey East as the Eagles have netted 54 goals and given up only 32. The +26 mark is the second-best in the NCAA.
THE GREAT WOLL OF CHESTNUT HILL
First-year goaltender Joe Woll has been steady in net for the Eagles all season and is currently in the top 22, nationally, in all goaltending categories. Woll is currently 14th in save percentage (.924), 22nd in goals against average (2.32) and tied for 18th in winning percentage (.682). The Dardenne Prairie, Mo. native has only given up more than three goals once in his last seven starts.
CASE'N THE JOINT
Sophomore defenseman Casey Fitzgerald has been on fire as of late and is currently tied for 63rd amongst ALL college skaters and not just blue liners. The North Reading, Mass. native is tied for sixth amongst all defensemen with 1.00 points per game and tied for second within his position for goals scored with five ( 5 ). Within conference play, Fitzgerald's point total is tied for tops amongst all defensemen.

Despite being the third-most penalized team in college hockey thus far (19.6 PIMs / game), the Eagles' penalty-killing unit has done a good job, snuffing out 74-of-92 opportunities at a rate of 80.4 percent.
NONPLUSSED
Two Eagle defensemen are near the top of the national plus/minus charts as freshman Connor Moore's +12 rating is tied for ninth-best in college hockey and second best in Hockey East. Casey Fitzgerald possesses a +11 plus/minus ratings with is tied for 14th on the national landscape. Both Austin Cangelosi and Christopher Brown are also at +11.

A TRICK FOR THE AGES

Cangelosi scored a power play goal, short-handed goal and even-strength goal in succession on Nov. 4 at Cross Insurance Arena in 34:19. The senior's accomplishment marked BC's first "natural hat trick" since Brian Gionta scored five goals on his first five shots on Jan. 27, 2001, also against Maine, at Kelley Rink.
