KEY MOMENT
Clemson stopped the Boston College offense with a goal line stand near the end of the first half as BC turned the ball over on downs. BC had three trips inside the Clemson 25-yard line in the first half but only managed a field goal.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Clemson's Ray-Ray McCloud muffed Mike Knoll's first punt of the game and senior DB John Johnson recovered it at the Tigers' nine-yard line. Knoll then connected on a 21-yard field goal to put BC ahead early, 3-0.
- Clemson responded on the ensuing drive when Wayne Gallman broke free for a 59-yard touchdown run to give the Tigers a 7-3 lead five minutes into the game.
- The Clemson lead went to 14-3 with 3:12 left in the first. Mike Williams keyed the drive with a diving catch on a 50-yard throw and a nine-yard touchdown reception on a fade to the left corner.
- A play-action pass up the middle to Jordan Leggett on the first play of the next drive went 56-yards for a score to push the lead to 21-3.
- In their first drive of the second half, Deshaun Watson connected on all three of his passes for all of the drive's 63 yards, capped by a 29-yard TD throw to Deon Cain to make it 28-3.
- Watson and Cain connected again on the next drive for a 16-yard touchdown to put the Clemson lead at 35-3 with 5:18 left in the third.
- BC responded to that with a nine-play, 55-yard drive that ended with graduate student QB Patrick Towles finding senior FB Bobby Wolford for a one-yard touchdown. Redshirt freshman RB Davon Jones accounted for 41 yards on the drive.
- Clemson scored on its third-consecutive drive, its longest of the night, which ended with a Tyshon Dye three-yard TD run to make it a 42-10 game.
- Tavien Feaster broke free for a 45-yard touchdown run and then Mark Fields returned an interception 42 yards for Clemson's final two scores late in the fourth quarter.
