Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Former Boston College baseball captain and director of baseball operations Pete Frates was the subject of the ESPN SportsCenter feature "A Father's Legacy," shown on Father's Day.
Frates, who was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in March 2012 at the age of 27, was the catalyst and inspiration behind the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in August 2014, which raised over $220 million for ALS research and patient care. He also welcomed his daughter Lucy into the world.
The ESPN piece, produced by BC alum Pete Gallagher '99, also featured Pete's father, John, who left his job to care for his son and travel with the BC baseball team.
