Eagles Face Loyola Maryland in NCAAs Sunday

#5 SEED BC VS. #13 LOYOLA IN NCAA TOURNAMNET SECOND ROUND

The Eagles will face Loyola Maryland in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Sunday at 1 p.m. after the Greyhounds routed Bryant, 21-3, in the first round Friday afternoon.
This will be the second meeting between Boston College and Loyola Maryland in the NCAA Tournament.
The Eagles and Greyhounds clashed last season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, when Loyola Maryland fell, 8-3, to Boston College at the Newton Lacrosse Field.

Boston College enters the matchup having won its last game against BU while Loyola Maryland is riding a 15-game winning streak, including recently upsetting #3 Syracuse on the road.

THE LAST MEETING VS. LOYOLA MARYLAND

The Eagles advanced to the quarterfinal of the NCAA Tournament with an, 8-3, victory over Loyola at the Newton Lacrosse Complex.
BC was led by Covie Stanwick with three goals and one assists, while Sarah Mannelly added three goals. Mikaela Rix had a goal and assists, two ground balls and two draw controls.
The Eagle offense started off quickly as Rix picked up the ground ball off the first draw which led to the first goal of the day by Kate Rich. Loyola tied the game at 1-1 on a goal from Sydney Thomas but the Eagles came back with three straight goals, two by Stanwick.
BC led, 5-2, at the half and had a 15-7 edge in shots. The Eagles also held a slight lead in ground balls, 9-5. Loyola's goalkeeper Molly Wolf had six saves, while BC's Zoe Ochoa (four saves) had three.
In the second half, Boston College took control of the game. The Eagles out-scored Loyola, 3-1, in the half. Mannelly scored off a free position shot at 26:06 to extend the BC lead, 6-2. Mannelly struck for her 50th goal of the season on an unassisted goal with 10:13 to play and BC's lead grew to, 7-2. Stanwick ended the scoring when she ripped a shot into the top corner and BC held an, 8-2, lead with 8:30 to play.
BC finished the game with a, 23-14, edge in shots and had 16 ground balls to 12 for Loyola. The Eagles had seven draw controls, four in the second half. Loyola had six but only one in the second half.

EAGLES IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT

Boston College is 2-3 in the NCAA Tournament.
The Eagles' two wins have come against Bryant and Loyola Maryland in the first and second rounds of last year's tournament.
