HOW IT HAPPENED
- Clemson was the first to get on the board, scoring a run in the third, but BC came right back to answer in the bottom of the inning. Glenn Batson was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice. He scored on a throwing error to first by third baseman Palomaki.
- The Eagles evened the game in the bottom of the inning. Junior Gabriel Hernandez drew a lead-off walk and sophomore Johnny Adams bunted him over. He moved to third on a wild pitch and Palomaki grounded to second to plate the first BC run.
- The Eagles took the lead in the fourth, scoring two runs on two hits. Junior Joe Cronin led off with a single to center and Strem was hit to put two on. Sophomore Nick Sciortino loaded the bases with a single up the middle. With one down, Hoggarth grounded to short, allowing Cronin to score. Shortstop Eli White overthrew the second-base bag, allowing Strem to score and give BC a 3-1 lead.
- Clemson took the lead in the fifth, scoring three runs. Senior left-handed starter Nick Poore put the first two on with a single and walk. Redshirt junior RHP Geoffrey Murphy came on in relief and walked the first batter he faced to load the bases. A groundout to second made it a one-run game. Reed Rohlman singled to score two and give the Tigers the 4-3 lead.
- The Tigers added two in the seventh with redshirt sophomore RHP Luke Fernandes on the hill. Rohlman started the inning with a walk and advanced to third when Palomaki could not come up with a grounder hit by Chris Okey, who landed on second. Chase Pinder hit one to third and Palomaki threw to the plate with Rohlman running, but the ball hit the runner, allowing him to score. Tyler Slaton laced one down the first-base line, which Cronin grabbed, but his throw to second also hit the runner, allowing another run to cross the plate. Junior LHP Jesse Adams entered the game and got a grounder to second. Senior Blake Butera threw home to get the out at the plate, keeping a CU run off the board. After allowing a walk, Adams settled in and finished the inning with two strikeouts.
- The Eagles threatening in the eighth as junior Stephen Sauter drew a two-out walk and Hoggarth doubled to put both runners in scoring position, but a fly out ended BC's chances.
