March 31, 2015 | Baseball
Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College junior Chris Shaw was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Hitter of the Week, announced on Tuesday. It was the first national honor for the outfield in his career. He also was named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, Eagle of the Week and College Sports Madness ACC Player of the Week.
The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season. Shaw is the third straight ACC hitter to be recognized, following Miami's David Thompson and Florida State's DJ Stewart.
Shaw led the Eagles to a perfect 5-0 week, including a weekend sweep of Duke. In two midweek games at Northeastern and against Holy Cross, the Lexington, Mass., native was 5-for-9 with seven RBIs and four extra-base hits. Against the Blue Devils, he scored in all three games, drove in four runs, and hit his first career walk-off home run on Saturday. For the week, Shaw led the Eagles with 11 RBIs, nine hits, and a 1.000 slugging percentage in the five games. He drove in the game-winning run in three of the five wins.
Coming into Tuesday's game, Shaw was tied for fourth in the ACC with seven home runs and ranked fourth with 31 RBIs.
Southern Miss senior right-handed pitcher James McMahon was named National Pitcher of the Week.
