Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College women's lacrosse goalkeeper Zoe Ochoa and midfielder Mikaela Rix earn Atlantic Coast Conference honors for their stellar performances in BC's 10-9 overtime win vs. No. 2/3 North Carolina on Saturday, March 21.
The Eagles have been honored by the ACC eight times this season for their achievements.
Rix was named ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week for her four-goal effort, including the overtime game-winner, against UNC. The Garden City, N.Y. native is now eighth in the conference with 2.89 goals per game. Rix is also tied for the leading goal-scorer in Boston College history, matching senior attacker Covie Stanwick's 173 career goals.
Sophomore goalkeeper Zoe Ochoa was tabbed ACC Defensive Player of the Week. Ochoa came up with a save in overtime to help the Eagles upset #2/3 North Carolina and maintain a perfect 9-0 record (4-0 ACC). BC turned the ball over in the second overtime period, causing a North Carolina offensive rush. After defending a Tar Heel player, Ochoa lunged from behind the net to come up with a big time save and preserve the Eagles' 10-9 overtime win.
Ochoa's and Rix's overtime heroics helped the Eagles stay one of only four undefeated teams in the nation and the only unbeaten team in the ACC. After the victory over UNC, Boston College earned its highest ever ranking at #2 on Monday.
