BC HIGHLIGHTS
· Senior LHP Nick Poore recorded a career-high five strikeouts in his 5.1-inning start. He retired 13 straight between the first and fifth innings and allowed just three hits.
· Sophomore Nick Sciortino tallied a career-high two RBIs, bringing in two on a single up the middle.
· Junior Logan Hoggarth, who has a hit in every game of the young season, led the way for the Eagles with a 2-for-3 afternoon, scoring a run.
· Freshman LHP Carmen Giampetruzzi made his debut as an Eagle in the ninth and struck out both batters he faced on six straight pitches.
KEY PLAYS
· The Eagles held a four-run lead going into the sixth, but the Musketeers scored five to take a lead that they added to in the eighth.
· Poore retired 13 in a row but allowed two base hits and a walk to load the bases. New pitcher freshman RHP Brian Rapp allowed a walk, three-run triple and RBI single in the inning before redshirt junior LHP Tyler Hinchliffe got the final two outs of the inning.
· The Eagles could not get anything going against Xavier left-hand reliever Greg Jacknewitz, who allowed just two hits and a walk over five scoreless innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· The Eagles score four runs in the in second to take an early lead. With one down, sophomore Michael Strem singled to right for BC’s first hit of the game. Hoggarth drew a walk to put two on and sophomore Johnny Adams plated Strem with a base hit. Hoggarth advanced to third when right fielder Brian Bruening bobbled the ball. Sciortino scored both runners with a single up the middle. He stole second to move into scoring position and junior Gabriel Hernandez brought him in with a chopper over the first baseman’s head.
· The Musketeers came back and scored five in the sixth to take a one-run lead. Poore allowed his first hits since the first inning with one down and loaded the bases on two singles and a walk. Rapp entered the game and walked in one run before giving up a triple to Patrick Jones to tie the game. Andre Jernigan singled to give Xavier the lead before Hinchliffe came on in relief. He picked off Jernigan and got a grounder to get out of the inning.
· Xavier scored four more in the eighth to take a 9-4 lead with senior right-hander Eric Stone on the mound. Three straight hits scored one and an error on a sac bunt loaded the bases. A sac fly made it 7-4 before Stone recorded the second out on a strikeout. An error and single scored two more before Stone got a fly out get out of the inning.
