BC HIGHLIGHTS
· Sophomore RHP Justin Dunn earned his first win of the season while tallying a career-high five strikeouts, allowing just two hits, one run and two walks.
· Junior LHP Jesse Adams recorded a career-high eight strikeouts over 4.2 innings, allowing five hits, three runs - all earned - and no walks.
· Junior Chris Shaw tallied two RBIs and was walked three times in the victory.
KEY PLAYS
· The Spartans held the lead for most of the game, but the Eagles scored three in the seventh RHP against RHP Dylan Parker to take a one-run lead that would lead to the second victory of the day.
· Junior Joe Cronin drove in a run to make it 4-3 and senior Blake Butera tied the game, scoring on a wild pitch. Sophomore Michael Strem came through with an RBI single to give BC the 5-4 lead.
· Dunn allowed just a single in the bottom of the inning and retired eighth of the final nine batters he faced to seal the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· USC Upstate scored two in the first to take an early lead. Adams hit Daniel Fickas to start the game but struck out the next two he faced. Charlie Carpenter hit a home run over the center-field wall to give the Spartan a 2-0 lead.
· The Eagles cut the lead to one in the third as freshman Mitch Bigras recorded his first career hit, a single to right. With the bases loaded, Shaw grounded to first, allowing Bigras to cross the plate.
· Erik Samples put the Spartans back up two with a one-out solo shot in the bottom of the inning.
· BC got a run back in the fifth to make it 3-2 on another RBI by Shaw, scoring junior Gabriel Hernandez who singled and moved to second on a single by Butera.
· USC Upstate made it 4-2 in the sixth on a Zach Krider solo home run off Dunn.
· The Eagles took the lead in the fifth, scoring three. With runners on first and second, Cronin drove in one with a base hit to cut the USC Upstate lead to one. The Spartans went to lefty Brad Emery to face Shaw. Butera scored on a wild pitch to make it a tie game, forcing Emery to intentionally walk Shaw. Strem came through with a single up the middle to give the Eagles the 5-4 lead.
