Junior Kelly Hughes finished with 26 points and 11 rebounds to lead Boston College to a, 71-45, non-conference victory over Northeastern (5-6) on Monday afternoon at the Cabot Center. Boston College improved to 10-1 and will host Bryant on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Conte Forum.
BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior Kelly Hughes recorded her first double-double of the season with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Hughes hit 10-for-12 from the floor and 6-for-6 from the three-point line. Ten of her 11 rebounds were on the defensive side.
- Freshman Mariella Fasoula finished with 13 points and four boards, while sophomore Martina Mosetti notched five points, three boards but had a team-high eight assists.
- BC shot a sizzling 69 percent from the floor as the Eagles held a 23-13 lead after one. Kelly Hughes had 12 points, while Mariella Fasoula chipped in with four points.
- The Eagles opened the second quarter on a 9-2 run to go up, 32-15 with 6:27 to play in the half. Hughes finished with 11 points in the quarter as BC held a 46-19 lead at the half. BC had 16 assists at the half and shot 64.3% from the floor.
- The start of the third quarter was sloppy as both teams did not take care of the ball. BC opened up on a 10-1 run as a three-pointer from Emilee Daley gave BC a 54-21 lead with 5:41 left in the quarter. Northeastern outscored BC, 12-6, in the final 3:30 of the quarter. The Eagles held a 60-34 lead with 10 to play after Hughes hit her sixth three-pointer with four seconds to play.
- The two teams exchanged baskets through the final quarter. After opening with a three by NU's Gabriella Giacone, BC scored six straight points to go up, 66-37. BC's Rachel Gartner hit the Eagles ninth three-pointer of the game with a little over a minute to play.
