Junior Kelly Hughes finished with 26 points and 11 rebounds to lead Boston College to a, 71-45, non-conference victory over Northeastern (5-6) on Monday afternoon at the Cabot Center. Boston College improved to 10-1 and will host Bryant on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Conte Forum.

BC HIGHLIGHTS

Junior Kelly Hughes recorded her first double-double of the season with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Hughes hit 10-for-12 from the floor and 6-for-6 from the three-point line. Ten of her 11 rebounds were on the defensive side.
Freshman Mariella Fasoula finished with 13 points and four boards, while sophomore Martina Mosetti notched five points, three boards but had a team-high eight assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

BC shot a sizzling 69 percent from the floor as the Eagles held a 23-13 lead after one. Kelly Hughes had 12 points, while Mariella Fasoula chipped in with four points.
The Eagles opened the second quarter on a 9-2 run to go up, 32-15 with 6:27 to play in the half. Hughes finished with 11 points in the quarter as BC held a 46-19 lead at the half. BC had 16 assists at the half and shot 64.3% from the floor.
The start of the third quarter was sloppy as both teams did not take care of the ball. BC opened up on a 10-1 run as a three-pointer from Emilee Daley gave BC a 54-21 lead with 5:41 left in the quarter. Northeastern outscored BC, 12-6, in the final 3:30 of the quarter. The Eagles held a 60-34 lead with 10 to play after Hughes hit her sixth three-pointer with four seconds to play.
The two teams exchanged baskets through the final quarter. After opening with a three by NU's Gabriella Giacone, BC scored six straight points to go up, 66-37. BC's Rachel Gartner hit the Eagles ninth three-pointer of the game with a little over a minute to play.
