Simmons Named ACC Defensive Back of the Week

The senior caused three turnovers against No. 4 Notre Dame
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College senior Justin Simmons was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Back of the Week, the league announced on Monday. He caused three turnovers against fourth-ranked Notre Dame at Fenway Park on Saturday night.

The Stuart, Fla., native forced and recovered a fumble in the first quarter on the Irish's third drive when ND led, 3-0. Before the end of the first half, Simmons had recorded an interception at the BC 31-yard line and he tallied his second INT in the red zone at the BC three-yard line.

Simmons helped the No. 1 defense in the nation hold the Irish, who came into the game averaging 36.2 points per game, to just 19 points. He tied for the team lead with eight tackles in the contest. Â

The senior has five interceptions on the season, which is tied for 11th in the nation and tied for first in the ACC. He also received a "helmet sticker" from the ESPN's ACC website and BC IMG Radio Network awarded Simmons the Joe and Anna Trustey Player of the Game Award.

The Eagles (3-8) finish the 2015 season at Syracuse (3-8) on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 12:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the ACC Regional Sports Network.
