24th Annual Baseball Night Set for January 21
November 23, 2015 | Baseball
Three-time World Series champion Curt Schilling will be the featured speaker
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The 24th Annual Baseball Night In Boston is scheduled for Thursday, January 21 from 6-9 p.m. at Fenway Park's State Street Pavilion. The event is the single largest fundraiser for the Boston College baseball program.
Â
Curt Schilling, former Major League pitcher and current ESPN analyst, will be the featured speaker and honored guest. The six-time all-star has three World Series titles under his belt –2001 with the Arizona Diamondbacks and 2004 and 2007 with the Boston Red Sox. Most Boston fans remember Game 6 of the 2004 American League when Schilling pitched on an injured ankle, gutting out a victory while wearing the "bloody sock." He retired after the 2007 season with a career postseason record of 11-2. His .846 postseason winning percentage is a Major League record among pitchers with at least 10 decision. He is a member of the 3,000 strikeout club and has the highest strikeout-to-walk ratio of any of its member.
Â
Schilling and his wife, Shonda, are tireless advocates for the care of ALS patients.
Â
"Baseball Night is vital to our program as the proceeds significantly contribute to the success of the BC baseball team competing in the prestigious Atlantic Coast Conference," said head coach Mike Gambino. "All the contributions allow us to develop our players in the classroom, on the baseball field and as 'Men for Other.' We are excited and honored to welcome Red Sox legend Curt Schilling this year. He will add a great element to the night and were proud to host him as Curt has always had a similar message as our team: to strike out ALS."
Â
Proceeds help to defray the team's early-season trips to the south which is vital to the team's preparation. The funds raised also contribute to annual operating expenses including recruiting, equipment and scholarships.
Â
There are several ways to support the success of the event. The first is by purchasing tickets or a sponsorship. Independent financial contributions, along with auction item donations, are also essential to the evening. Donated items such as tickets to sporting or non-sporting events, autographed balls, pictures and jerseys, along with many other items will be auctioned off the night of the event.
Â
Space is limited to 250 guests and tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost $150 per ticket before Dec. 31 $175 until Jan. 7 and $200 until the night of the events. Patrons will be able to purchase tickets at the door if they are still available.
Â
