BC HIGHLIGHTS
- The Boston College defense recorded five turnovers, the most since notching five against Villanova on Aug. 31, 2013. Senior Justin Simmons led the way with three forced turnovers – a forced fumble and recovery and two interceptions. Junior John Johnson intercepted a pass in the end zone on the Irish's first drive and classmate Matt Milano forced and recovered a fumble in the second quarter.
- Freshman Jeff Smith scored on an 80-yard touchdown run, recording the longest play from scrimmage since Nov. 9, 2013 at New Mexico State when Andre Williams tallied an 80-yard touchdown run. He also connected with sophomore Charlie Callinan for a three-yard score with less than a minute to play.
- Freshman Michael Walker career-long, 67-yard kickoff return to start the second half, which turned into a scoring play for the Eagles as classmate Colton Lichtenberg recorded a career-long 43-yard field goal to put BC on the board.
KEY PLAYS
- Three points ended up deciding the 23rd meeting between the Irish and Eagles as BC scored with under a minute to play. Justin Yoon hit a 35-yard field goal with 10:35 in the fourth quarter, which turned out to be the difference in the game BC scored the final 13 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Irish scored on its second drive after Johnson stopped the first driving with his interception in the end zone. Justin Yoon connected on a 30-yard field goal with just under six minutes to play in the first quarter on an eight-play, 64-yard drive.
- Yoon hit the upright on a 44-yard field goal with 30 seconds left in the quarter but a roughing the kicker penalty gave Notre Dame another chance. DeShone Kizer hit Amir Carlisle for a 10-yard touchdown pass to make it 10-0 as the first frame ended.
- The Eagles got on the board on the first drive of the second half. Walker returned the kickoff 67 yards and Litchenburg nailed a career-long, 43-yard field goal to make it a 10-3 game.
- Kizer connected with Will Fuller on a 32-yard pass to the BC 21 on third-and-eight to keep the Irish drive alive and after a nine-yard run by Josh Adams, Kizer hit Chris Brown in the end zone with a 12-yard pass. ND did not convert the two-point attempt to make it a 16-3 game.
- Yoon increased the Irish lead with a 35-yard field goal with 10:35 to play in the game on an eight-play, 60-yard drive.
- On the first play on the ensuing drive, Smith accelerated for the 80-yard TD run with just over 10 minutes to play in the game. The Eagles did not convert the two-point conversion and the score stood, 19-9.
- The Eagles made it a three-point game on a Smith connection to Callinan for a three-yard score with 54 seconds to play. Lichtenberg hit the extra point but Notre Dame recovered the on-sides kick and the Eagles did not have enough timeouts to stop the clock before time ran out.
