Boston College looks to keep its hot start intact Saturday night at New Hampshire following a five-game homestand
BOSTON COLLEGE vs. NEW HAMPSHIRE
The Eagles will get back to Hockey East play when Boston College travels to Durham, N.H., for a Saturday night showdown, marking the 146th installment of this New England border battle. The BC – New Hampshire series is a closely-contested one as Boston College is ahead by only five victories (68-63-14) ahead but has had a great run as of late. The Eagles have not lost to UNH in the last five meetings (3-0-2) and are 10-1-1 in the last 12 meetings. In contests held at the Whittemore Center, Boston College possesses an 8-1-1 record against the Wildcats in its last 10 meetings in Durham dating back to March 13, 2009. Success at New Hampshire was not always the case under Coach York. Since taking over, York's clubs posted a 3-16-1 mark within the confines of the Whittemore Center starting off. After sweeping the series in 2014-15, Boston College upped its overall advantage in series history to a 68-63-13 mark, including a 48-43-12 total in Hockey East play. BC and UNH have some binding ties as well. Not only are York and UNH head coach Dick Umile two of the most celebrated coaches in the sport, they have combined for 1,556 victories and over 70 years of combined coaching experience. York is in his 44th season overall while celebrates his 26th season in Durham. Additionally, BC assistant coach Mike Ayers was New Hampshire's goaltender from 2000-04. Ayers was voted second-team All-American in 2003.
WORD ON THE WILDCATS
New Hampshire catches Boston College on the backend of a two-game Hockey East weekend as the Wildcats host Massachusetts on Friday, Nov. 20 before BC comes to town. Heading into the weekend, New Hampshire is winless in its last three outings, getting swept and Michigan State by a combined score of 12-4 before UNH's Chris Miller salvaged a league point with an extra attacker strike with 38 seconds left to force a 3-3 tie at Merrimack on Nov. 14. Prior to the three-game winless spurt, the Wildcats were unbeaten from Oct. 23-31, tying UMass in a wild 6-6 affair before beating Union (5-2) and Merrimack (4-2) on the road. Heading into the Friday, New Hampshire boasts the nation's leading scorer in Tyler Kelleher. The junior forward is averaging two points per game with five goals and 13 assists through nine contests played. Supporting Kelleher's efforts is sophomore Andrew Poturalski and his 1.78 points per game. Poturalski is the nation's fourth-leading scorer, averaging 1.78 points per game with seven goals and nine assists thus far. Kelleher's assist average is best in the nation as well, posting 1.44 helpers per trip while Poturalski's 0.78 goals per game is tied for eighth. Sophomore Daniel Tirone has seen the majority of action in goal, posting a 1-4-2 win-loss total with a .872 save percentage and a 4.19 goals allowed average. Classmate Adam Clark has started only two games this season but he emerged victoriously in both with a .939 save rate and allowed only four goals in two contests. Tirone and Clark have had the task of backstopping the 55th-ranked defense in college hockey (3.89 gpg) but the offense ranks 10th overall. The Wildcats are scoring at a rate of 3.78 goals per game, good for third in Hockey East. The power play has been clicking at a rate of 25.0 percent, converting on 12-of-48 chances, good for 10th nationally. The penalty kill is slotted in 36th, killing off 80.6 percent of opponents' power plays (25-for-31).

• Much talk has been about the Eagle defense to start the season, but the offense ranks first in Hockey East and fifth, overall, in college hockey - BC is one of seven clubs averaging over four goals per game

Thatcher Demko matched history after posting six shutouts in seven starts (Oct. 16 - Nov. 8, 2015), stringing together a pair of three-game shutout streaks. Demko's historic run tied Blaine Lacher of Lake Superior State for posting six shutouts in seven games, marking only the second time in the history of college hockey something of that magnitude has been achieved. Below are the runs posted by each goaltender:

Demko's first shutout streak started in the third period at Rensselaer on Oct. 11, 2015, where he played shutout hockey for 206 minutes and two seconds (206:02), denoting the 20th-longest stretch of zero goals allowed in the history of the game. Demko's second run started in the third period of the Denver contest on Oct. 30 and spanned to the second period against Michigan State, surpassing his previous total and posting another 208 minutes and 36 seconds (208:36) of scorelss hockey. That mark is the 17th-best stretch in the history of the game. Demko's scoreless string of 208:36 is third longest in school history behind Scott Clemmensen (254:23 – Jan. 9-24, 1998) and Cory Schneider (242:19 – Jan. 13-27, 2006).
STANDING TALL AMONGST THE BEST
Demko is currently second in the nation in goals against average (1.00) and save percentage (.962) on the year and is two shutouts clear (6) of the next closest netminder, Charlie Lindgren of St. Cloud State. For a career, the 6-foot-4 backstopper is 44-19-6 (.681) with a 2.04 goals against average and a .928 save percentage (1,815 saves on 1,956 shots). If Demko's 2.04 GAA held, it would match Matti Kaltiainen's (2001-05) career mark for best all time. His six shutouts this season is two shy of matching the single-season mark set by Cory Schneider during the 2005-06 season. Demko possesses nine career shutouts, good for fourth-best all-time. He is three blankings shy of matching John Muse's third-place mark of 12 career shutouts (2007-11). Schneider holds the record with 15 (2004-07) while Scott Clemmensen is second with 13 (1997-2001).
STARTING STRONG
Two times in the last four seasons, head coach Jerry York has started off the season with a 9-1 mark, matching the 2012-13 Eagle entrie. Those thwo starts mark the best record (9-1) through 10 games under York's tenure. The Eagles currently have the the second-best winning percentage in the game behind Quinnipiac (11-0-0) and own the third-longest unbeaten streak in the country thus far.Â
HALF DOZEN BAGELS
For the first time in Boston College hockey history and second time in college hockey history, the Eagles shutout six opponents in seven games spanning from Oct. 16 to Nov. 8. Thatcher Demko backstopped all six of those blankings. The closest BC has ever come to this current record is when the Eagles shutout four teams in six games from Jan. 23 to Feb. 11, 2000.
BEST DEFENSIVE START IN 94 YEARS
In allowing only 10 goals in BC's first 10 regulation games, the Eagles are off to their best defensive start in program history. Boston College's 1.00 goals allowed per game through the first 10 contests of the season is the lowest mark in BC's 94 years of varsity hockey. BC has not allowed a goal in three Hockey East contests yet.
ONE-SIDED
Over the course of BC's six shutouts in seven games, the Eagles outscored their opponents by a combined 30-3. BC's 7-0 shutout against Massachusetts on Nov. 3 was the largest margin of victory in a blanking since the 11-0 win over Army on Nov. 10, 2013.Â
FOUR FOUR FITZY
In his 87th career game, Ryan Fitzgerald posted his first four-point performance with a pair of goals and two assists in the 6-4 winover Michigan State on Nov. 13. Fitzgerald joined Colin White as the only two Eagles to post four points in game thus far.
WATCH OUT FOR WHITE
First-year forward Colin White has accounted for 12 points (4-8-12) in his last five games and now leads both the Eagles and all rookies nationally in scoring. The Hanover, Mass., native is averaging 1.50 points per game with six goals and nine assists through 10 contests.
BEACON STREET BULLIES
Boston College is currently second in the nation, averaging 24.0 penaly minutes per game, trailing Army, who is averaging 23.2 PIMs.
GETTIN' JEKE-Y WIT' IT
Travis Jeke logged an assist in the victory, his first since a helper at Denver on Nov. 1, 2014. Jeke has accounted for a pair of points (1-1-2) in five games at left wing.
QUICK DRAW CANGE
Austin Cangelosi scored 12 seconds into the home opener against Wisconsin, marking the fastest goal scored by an Eagle since Matt Price tallied 11 seconds into the game against Northeastern on March 7, 2008. The Estero, Fla., native scored twice against the Badgers, marking his second-career two-goal outing. His first also came against Wisconsin on Oct. 18, 2013
GAU-GAU GAUDREAU
Matthew Gaudreau is also in the midst of a career-best five-game point streak with a pair of assists in Friday's victory over MSU. The Carneys Point, N.J., native has notched one goal and six assists since joined forced with Colin White and Ryan Fitzgerald on the third line.
LAYIN' THE WOOD
Miles Wood has scored a power play goal in back-to-back games on Nov. 8 and Nov. 13. His power play goal against Michigan State on Nov. 13 marked the rookie's first-career game-winning goal.
