HIGHLIGHTS
Three of the four sets were decided by two points, but Georgia Tech, who had three players that recorded double-doubles, was too strong for the Eagles as Boston College fell to the Yellow Jackets Sunday afternoon in Power Gym. Leading the way for Boston College was Sol Calvete and Katty Workman, who each recorded double-doubles of their own in the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One:
In the opening frame, Boston College forced extra points before falling 28-26 to Georgia Tech. The set, which had nine tied scores and three lead changes, was even at 21-all when the Yellow Jackets took the 22-21 lead on a BC attack error. The Maroon and Gold fought back and even it at 23, 24, and 25 apiece. Katty Workman's kill to go up one, one of her 24 on the afternoon, which tied her second most kills all season, was followed by back-to-back kills from GT's Ashley Arkin, which allowed them to retake the one point lead. The Yellow Jackets ended the set with a service ace from their middle blocker Annika Van Gunst.
Set Two:
Looking to even the match in the set, Boston College once again found themselves in a battle that was decided by a mere two points. After a kill from Julia Topor and a GT attack error put Boston College out front early, kills from Workman and Anna Skold allowed BC to extend their lead to 7-4. With BC leading 15-11, Georgia Tech fired off three straight points and took five of the next six points, which tied the score at 16-all. The two squads split several of the next points, but a four-point run from the Yellow Jackets late in the frame helped them seal the set 25-23, giving them a 2-0 lead heading into the break.
Set Three:
Boston College got on the board in the third set as the Eagles won what was another close set, 25-23. BC led the entire set and despite Georgia Tech's effort to chip away at the deficit, BC was able to hold on for the victory coming out of the break. Seven of Workman's 24 kills on the day were tallied in the third set, including two of the last three points for BC.
Set Four:
Georgia Tech took an early 7-4 lead over the Eagles in the fourth set, but the determined Eagles fought back to tie it at 10-all following kills from Sol Calvete (2), Brittany Pavich, Camille Oemcke before a service ace from Calvete. The final set featured six tied scores and two lead changes, but ended when Georgia Tech finished on a 10-5 run of their own.
UP NEXT:
Boston College continues their home stand next Friday, Nov. 6 at 7:30 pm when the Eagles host of the Wolfpack of North Carolina State.
