ACC Releases Baseball Coaches Preseason Poll

Greensboro, N.C. – The Boston College baseball team was picked to finish seventh in the Atlantic Division and 13th overall in the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Coaches Preseason Poll, released on Tuesday. Virginia was chosen to win the league.
The Cavaliers were named by 10 coaches as the team to beat for the second straight year, while Florida State received four first-place votes. Virginia, which reached the 2014 College World Series Finals, was named by 13 coaches as the likely Coastal Division winner.
The Cavaliers totaled 97 points in the voting (seven points for a first place vote, six for second place, etc.), and were followed by North Carolina (78), Miami (75), defending ACC champion Georgia Tech (54), Duke (43), Virginia Tech (24) and Pittsburgh (21).
Florida State was picked to repeat as the Atlantic Division winner, receiving seven of the possible 14 votes for first place while totaling 91 points. League newcomer Louisville (84 points) collected four first-place votes, while Clemson (77) received three votes for first place. Rounding out the Atlantic Division were NC State (53), Wake Forest (39), Notre Dame (25) and BC (23).
All 14 ACC teams open the 2015 season with nonconference games on Friday, Feb. 13. The Eagles will head to USC Upstate for four games against the Spartans, Xavier and Wofford Feb. 13-15. BC is looking to improve on a 22-33 finish, going 10-20 in the ACC in 2014. It was a 10-game improvement from the 2013 season and the most wins under fifth-year head coach Mike Gambino.
The 2015 ACC Baseball Championship will be May 19-24 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C.
