BOSTON COLLEGE ADVANCES TO QUARTERS
• The Boston College lacrosse team made history twice in one weekend as the Eagles
advanced to the quarterfi nal of the NCAA Tournament with an, 8-3, victory over
Loyola.
• The Eagles defeated Bryant University in the fi rst round, 17-9.
• This is the fi rst-ever NCAA Quarterfi nal appearance for the Eagles.
THE LAST MEETING
• Junior Mikaela Rix led the Eagles with three goals, but No. 10/9 Boston College fell
to No. 2/3 Syracuse, 11-9, on February 26 at Newton Lacrosse and Soccer Field.
• Junior Covie Stanwick notched fi ve points with two goals and three assists. Senior
Moira Barry and sophomore Sarah Mannelly each scored a pair of goals for the
Eagles.
• Syracuse started off the scoring early in the fi rst. Rix buried one into the net off a
free position shot and Mannelly peeled around the cage and whipped one between the
pipes to give the Eagles a 2-1 advantage with 13:31 to play in the half.
• The Orange scored back-to-back goals but Rix answered with two of her own to
give BC a 4-3 lead at halftime.
• Katie Webster scored in the opening minutes of the second half to tie the game, 4-4.
Stanwick found Barry who netted her fi rst tally give the Eagles a one-point lead, 5-4,
with 21:22 left to play.
• The Orange then scored four straight goals in less than fi ve minutes to give them an
8-5 edge with 13:18 to go.
• BC and SU traded a pair of goals late in the second half. Despite two more points
from Stanwick, the Eagles were not able to recover and Syracuse took the game, 11-9.
• The Orange held an advantage in shots (22-17) and ground balls (14-9). Boston College
edged Syracuse in saves (7-6) and draw controls (12-10).
SERIES HISTORY VS. THE ORANGE
• This will be the second meeting between the two teams as members of the ACC.
• Boston College has yet to defeat Syracuse in 11 all-time meetings between the two
schools. The Eagles are 0-7 at home and 0-5 on the road against the Orange.
• In the last outing on February 26, the Eagles fell to the Orange, 11-9, at the Newton
Lacrosse complex.
• The game served as BC’s closest loss to the Orange.
STANWICK NAMED BRINE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
• Boston College junior Covie Stanwick has been named the Brine Player of the Week,
announced by InsideLacrosse.com on Tuesday.
• Stanwick captured the honors after leading the way for the Eagles in both of their
contests last weekend. The Tewaaraton nominee notched a game-high eight points (5g,
3a) in the fi rst round win over Bryant and followed up that performance with another
game-high outing over Loyola (3g, 1a).
• The Baltimore, Md., native has compiled a team-high 84 points on the season and
dished out a team-high 37 assists.
FOUR EAGLES EARN IWLCA ALL-NORTHEAST HONORS
• Boston College women’s lacrosse players Sarah Mannelly, Mikaela Rix, Covie
Stanwick and Kate McCarthy have earned IWLCA All-Northeast Region honors, the
Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association announced on Monday.
• For the seventh straight year, BC landed three or more players on the All-Region
team. Rix and Stanwick have taken home All-Northeast First Team honors for the third
consecutive year while McCarthy took home Second Team honors last season.
• Rix, a Tewaaraton Award Nominee, leads BC with 56 goals and ranks second on the
team with 16 assists and 72 points. The Garden City, N.Y., native – a three-time All-
ACC performer – also leads the squad with 73 draw controls. The midfi elder earned
WomensLax.com Player of the Week and ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors
after recording a career-high six points in the season opener against Notre Dame.
• Stanwick – also a Tewaaraton Award Nominee and three-time All-ACC player paces
the squad with 84 points on 47 goals and 37 assists. The Baltimore, Md., product ranks
fi rst in the ACC in assists per game (2.00) and second in the conference in points per
game (4.68).
• Mannelly – an All-ACC performer has been a vital component in the midfi eld
throughout her sophomore campaign. The New Canaan, Conn., native ranks third on
the team with 64 points on 47 goals and 17 assists. She also leads the squad in caused
turnovers with 14.
• McCarthy – a two-time All-Region selection leads the Eagles’ defense. The Longmeadow,
Mass., product leads the team in draw controls (41) and ranks third on the
team with 25 ground balls on the season. She picked up ACC Defensive Player of the Week after her performance in the season opener against Notre Dame.
