Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College baseball team tallied a 10-9, walk-off victory over No. 30 North Carolina as junior Blake Butera singled with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to bring home the winning run on Saturday afternoon at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at Commander Shea Field.

The Eagles (10-19, 2-12 ACC) climbed back into the game, down by four and five runs a different points in the game, evening the weekend series with the Tar Heels (17-13, 6-8 ACC). The victory was the second walk off this week, as BC earned a 2-1 win against Connecticut on Tuesday in the bottom of the ninth.

Butera, who was 3-for-5 with three runs and tied a career high with three RBIs, recorded his third career walk-off single as he plated the winning run in the Eagles' comeback victory against Georgia Tech on March 24, 2012 and again on March 31 in the 12th inning against Maryland to win, 5-4.

The Eagles tied the game at nine in the eighth and freshman right-hander Mike King pitched a perfect ninth, striking out two. Classmate Nick Sciortino drew a walk to put the winning run on base to start the bottom of the inning. Redshirt sophomore Nick Colucci came in to pinch run and with two outs, he stole second to move into scoring position. On a 1-2 count, Butera knocked one into right center and Colucci hustled around third, never stopping until he reached the plate.

King (1-0) earned his first career win. Sophomore Chris Shaw also tied a career high with four RBIs on the day, going 2-for-4 and one run. Classmate Joe Cronin was 1-for-3 with an RBI and two walks. Both sophomores have tallied at least one hit in the last four games.

BC outhit UNC, 12-11, but left 11 men on base throughout the three-and-a-half hour contest. The Heels stranded seven.

Redshirt sophomore left-hander Andrew Chin threw 5.1 innings, allowed eight hits, seven runs - six earned - and four walks. He struck out four in his eighth start of the season.

North Carolina starter RHP Benton Moss went six innings, gave up eight hits, four runs - all earned - one walk and struck out four. Lefty Henry Sisson (0-1) took the loss, pitching the final 1.1 innings, allowing the hit to Butera, the winning run, two walks and three strikeouts.

The Heels got on the board in the fourth, tallying four runs on four hits and an error. Tom Zengel led off with a double to right. Right fielder Shaw reached up to the wall and made the catch, but the ball fell out of his glove, allowing Zengel to stand on second. He moved to third on a passed ball and scored the first run of the game on Landon Lassiter's single to center. A sacrifice bunt moved Lassiter to second and he scored on a double by Parks Jordan. After Chin struck out his fourth batter of the game, he walked Tyler Ramirez and Jordan crossed the plate after moving up to third on a wild pitch on a base hit by Michael Russell. Ramirez landed on third on a wild pitch and scored when Wood Myers hit a chopper toward short and Cronin's throw pulled senior first baseman John Hennessy off the bag. Hennessy threw home to get Russell trying to cross the plate to end the inning.

The Eagles got three back in the bottom of the inning to make it a one-run game. Hennessy started the inning with a single and moved around to third on a well-executed hit-and-run with Butera. Shaw drove in Hennessy with a single to center. Cronin singled up the middle to make it 4-2. Sophomore Logan Hoggarth loaded the bases with another BC base hit and with two outs in the inning, Sciortino hit one to the outfield grass at short, allowing Shaw to score.

King tallied his first career win, pitching a perfect ninth.

UNC took a five-run lead in the sixth, scoring four more runs. With one out, Chin loaded the bases on a blooper and two walks. Redshirt freshman Luke Fernandes entered the game and gave up a single to center to Russell. Senior centerfielder Tom Bourdon overran the ball, allowing two extra runs to come in. Russell came home on a wild pitch to make it an 8-3 game. Fernandes had runners on first and second after walking two, but forced a fly ball and Bourdon made a diving catch to retire the side.

The Eagles got three back in the seventh to make it a two-run game. Sophomore Gabriel Hernandez drew a lead-off walk before the Heels went to the pen for right-hander Reilly Hovis. Hovis walked Hennessy to put two on and both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Butera smacked a double to right center to score both his teammates. He moved to third on a wild pitch and Shaw brought him home on a sacrifice fly to center. Cronin drew a walk and moved up to second on another wild pitch before Hovis tallied a strikeout looking for the second out. Bourdon beat out a close throw on an infield single to put runners on the corners, but Hovis got out of the jam with another strikeout looking.

UNC added a run back in the eighth, but BC tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Ramirez led off with a double and, after Fernandes recorded the first out, senior southpaw Steve Green came into the game. He got Myers looking for the second out before intentionally walking Skye Bolt. Zengel singled up the middle to score Ramirez before catcher Sciortino picked off Bolt at third to end the inning.

After Hernandez drew a one-out walk, the Heels went back to the pen for left-hander Zach Rice, who loaded the bases with two more walks. Shaw smacked a base hit up the middle to score two and cut the lead to one. After new reliever right-hander Spencer Trayner walked Cronin to reload the bases, Sisson entered the game. Hoggarth worked the count full and drew a walk to bring home the tying run.

The two squads will meet for the rubber match at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
