Softball Goes Undefeated in Fall Ball
October 30, 2014 | Softball
Chestnut Hill, Mass. – Boston College softball went undefeated this fall, winning all eight games against regional opponents in its fall ball schedule.
“I was very pleased with the play during our eight fall games. As a coaching staff, we kept reminding the team that each opponent we faced this fall was an opponent we would face in a mid-week matchup during the spring. It has always been our goal to be the best team in the Northeast, so for our girls to come out and take care of business in each game, was truly impressive,” said head coach Ashley Obrest.

The Eagles kicked off the fall with cross-town rival Boston University. Boston College shut out the Terrier, 10-0. Highlights included Tatiana Cortez’s homerun in her first at-bat, two RBIs from freshman Chloe Sharabba, and Annie Murphy’s two hits. On the mound, Ally Frei struck out eight BU hitters—the most strikeouts by a BC pitcher in the fall season—and Jesse Dreswick struck out four.

In Saturday’s second game, the Eagles faced the Providence Friars. Freshman Chloe Sharabba hit her first career homerun and drove in four runs for Boston College. BC took on the Terriers for the second time this fall on Friday, Sep. 26. The game remained scoreless until the top of the fourth when freshman Chloe Sharrabba dropped a single into left field to drive in Jessie Daulton. The Eagles led, 1-0, heading into the fifth. BU responded with two runs, but a Daulton sacrifice fly with the bases loaded evened the score at two runs apiece in the top of five. Tatiana Cortez’s RBI single driving in Taylor Coroneos gave BC the go-ahead run. The Terriers answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh to tie it up at three and bring the game into extra innings.
After back-to-back singles by Jordan Chimento and Taylor Coroneos, junior Megan Cooley blasted the game-winning homerun to give the Eagles a 6-3 victory.
Massachusetts Sep. 28
In the rubber match against UMass, freshman Annie Murphy and sophomore Tatiana Cortez each drove in two runs while freshman Jordan Chimento posted a two-hit effort.
Freshman RHP Jessie Dreswick started on the mound for the Eagles, striking out three and allowing one run. Freshman RHP Allyson Frei took over in the third and recorded five Ks. Sophomore RHP Jordan Weed closed out the game to give the Eagles their fourth win of the fall.

Harvard Oct. 5
Boston College played a double-header against Harvard on Sunday, Oct. 5. In the first game, the Eagles’ bats got going early in the second inning. With runners in scoring position, Taylor Coroneos drove in the first BC run. A wild pitch would add another run to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead after the second. Harvard put a dent into the Boston College lead with back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the fifth to make it 2-1, BC. Megan Cooley chopped one out of reach of the shortstop to score Sommers from second, extending BC’s lead to 3-1. Jordan Chimento scorched a ball down the third baseline to drive in the fourth BC run. Boston College finished with a 4-1 victory.
In the second game against the Crimson, BC trailed 2-0 in the fourth after Harvard drove two runners in. The Eagles responded with a four-run fifth inning after Megan Cooley loaded the bases with one out. Jessie Daulton, Tatiana Cortez, Chloe Sharabba, and Jordan Chimento all tallied RBIs to put BC ahead 4-2. Boston College would hold the lead to win its last game of the fall.
