Frates Awarded No Limits Media Award
October 20, 2014 | Baseball
Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College alum and ALS advocate Pete Frates '07 was awarded the No Limits Media award on Monday afternoon. His parents, John and Nancy, accepted the award, along with seniors on the baseball team, John Gorman and Blake Butera, on his behalf.
No Limits Media, founded in 2001, is dedicated to helping all people with disabilities live lives of opportunity and achievement through a variety of initiatives, including films, videos, podcasts, television, web, documentaries, art exhibits and educational curriculum.
Co-founders Artemis Joukowsky and Dr. Larry Rothstein were on hand to present the award, which honored Frates as the first recipient of the No Limits annual award, given to the person who most dramatically used the media to impact people with disabilities.
Frates sparked the "Ice Bucket Challenge," a social media phenomenon that raised over $100 million for the ALS Association and thousands more for other organizations and charities. The reach was far greater, educating people around the world about a disease that most had only heard of.
